Hitzfeld: It’s Two Points Dropped
Bayern Munich trainer Ottmar Hitzfeld was left unhappy with the result at the Allianz Arena s his side came from behind to secure a 1-1 draw against rivals Hamburg.
In an absorbing game, the visitors took the lead on the hour mark after a bad mistake from Brazilian centre back Lucio gifted Ivica Olic an easy chance.
Substitute Franck Ribéry was involved in Bayern’s equaliser six minutes later with Zé Roberto slotting home from inside the six yard box.
There was more drama at the end with Mark van Bommel being sent off for complaining about a yellow card.
“It is annoying that we have let two points slip” moaned Hitzfeld after the game.
“We had Hamburg under control for the majority of the match and had more chances than them. We gifted them a goal.
“Luckily we got the equaliser, but then the winning goal eluded us. I am not happy with the result because we were the stronger team” he added.

Well Hitzfeld, maybe you should sub sooner and to the fullest with 3 subs, and not just one or 2 in the 80th minute -- especially when you see things going wrong. Ribery was the right choice, but Schweinsteiger should have come off earlier, and Klose should have never started. Lucio's mistake -- well, it was one of those hindsight is 20/20 scenerios, sure he was way too laxed about when it happened. But Lucio will do everything to make up for any mistakes he makes, that's what I like about him -- and he did give it more from then on out. Toni's goal should have counted, but the refs once again go against Bayern.

Lucio is human, like everyone else. Mistakes happen.
He's a world class CB, no matter if you rate him as one or not.
I was frustrated when we conceded, of course, but I calmed down gradually.
Lucio is a legend, I forgave him for the mistake, and I know the majority forgave him aswell.

Reaction to Bayern v Hamburg | Hoeneß: The title race is far from over
After a 1-1 draw at home to closest pursuers Werder two weeks ago, Bayern repeated the result against fourth-placed Hamburg on Sunday, the second missed opportunity to shake off a determined title contender. “The team wasn’t able to cope with the pressure,” suggested Uli Hoeneß. Coach Ottmar Hitzfeld was equally dismayed at his side’s failure to win the north v south showdown. “Obviously we’re not happy, because we’ve dropped two points,” the General offered.
Reaction to Bayern v Hamburg:
Uli Hoeneß: “I think both sides will be happy with the result. We’ve missed a chance to pull clear, because the team wasn’t able to cope with the pressure. It happened against Bremen and it’s happened again today. HSV were very defensive and only had two shots at goal. We’re having trouble forcing the ball over the line at the moment. The draw means the title race is far from over just now. It’s completely open again.“
Ottmar Hitzfeld: “Obviously we’re not happy, because we’ve dropped two points. We were definitely the better team, we were in their box a lot more often, and we had more chances. We were closer than they were to opening the scoring. HSV defended very well and were dangerous on the break. It was a big game with plenty of quality, where little things were always going to make the difference. We gifted Hamburg the opener, but we showed character to fight back. Ribéry came on and upped the pressure before laying on the equaliser. I’m annoyed that it wasn’t enough today. You can’t afford any mistakes in the big games.“
Huub Stevens (HSV coach): “You have to be delighted with a point in Munich. We battled very hard for the result and we probably enjoyed the rub of the green, but with just a shade more luck we might have taken even more from the match. I’ve always said Bayern are favourites for the title, and that remains the case, but we’ve made sure it’ll stay exciting, so I have nothing but praise for my team.“
Frank Rost (HSV keepr and captain): “After taking the lead, we were too confident of protecting the advantage until the end. At the throw-in which led to the goal we were too certain the ref would give it for us, and before we knew it, the ball was in the back of our net. Bayern punish you for that kind of thing. We want to stay up there at the top, and if that’s your aim, you’ve got to come away with something from Munich. Obviously we’d like to qualify for the Champions League next year, and I guess we won’t go down now.“

‘Nothing has changed’ | Reds remain on course despite HSV draw
Bayern missed the opportunity to open up a daunting six-point gap at the top of the Bundesliga on Sunday, but even though a 1-1 draw at home to fourth-placed Hamburger SV ultimately rates as a disappointment, Munich still stretched their lead by a point and remain on course for a lights-to-flag charge to the title.
“Obviously, we’re not happy about dropping two points,” an understandably downcast Bayern boss Ottmar Hitzfeld declared after 90 absorbing minutes in “a big match of real quality. We were the better team and had the better of the chances, but we gifted them a goal, so we have to be satisfied with a point, although a draw is basically not enough for us.“
No need for long faces
The coach’s comments were echoed by Uli Hoeneß: “Obviously, we’re a shade disappointed not to gave pulled clear. A win would definitely have put us in pole position, but we didn’t get it, so the work goes on,” the general manager observed. “Basically, nothing has changed. We’re still extremely well-placed. There’s no need for long faces.“
In a carbon copy of the meeting with Werder Bremen two weeks ago, Oliver Kahn & Co were again forced to make do with a point against visiting title rivals. Bayern have now drawn eight games this term, five of them at the Allianz Arena. “But we’ve only lost once in 35 competitive matches, which is a tremendous record,” captain Oliver Kahn reminded reporters on Monday.
Lacking the killer touch
The 38-year-old keeper feels the team lacks a little of the cold-blooded ruthlessness needed to see off direct rivals in the championship battle. “We need to rediscover our killer instinct, scoring a second immediately after equalising, and delivering the knockout blow,” Kahn mused. “We’re failing to finish off our opponents,“ Hoeneß agreed.
As has often been the norm this season, Bayern led the way in all the critical match stats with the exception of goals scored, as Zé Roberto’s fourth of the season after 66 minutes only served to cancel out Ivica Olic’s opener on the hour, the Hamburg striker profiting from Lucio’s sole error of the afternoon to convert the visitors’ solitary clear-cut chance.
Plenty of character
“You can’t afford mistakes like that in top matches,” reflected Hitzfeld, although the coach was quick to defend the Brazil centre-half: “It wasn’t Lucio’s best day, but it’s bound to happen occasionally when you play 70 matches a season.“ Hitzfeld was pleased with his side’s “high morale“ in bouncing back to equalise so quickly.
“It would be nice for our nerves and general state of mind if we had more of a cushion,” Hoeneß admitted afterwards, “but on the other hand, maybe it’s better this way, given what we’re aiming at this season.” At the end of the day, the general manager was in a good mood by the time he left the Allianz Arena. “Obviously, a six-point lead would have been comforting, but if we don’t have it now, we might do in the future. Provided we stay top and our fate is in our own hands, I won’t be worried.“

^Yep -- opening a gap is just than. So what, its not 6. Bayern will get through. Like everyone else, I was a bit frustrated, but when you cool down and look at things later --its ok. We didn't win, but neither did they, we kept the pace. At least it wasn't a loss. And as Hoeness and Hitz always say -- we have to win against the regulation and bottom half clubs, and not tie them. At least Werder are without their main goal scorer for 3 games-- Diego. So we will need to at least get a tie at Shalke and then we are done with the other tough teams in the Bundesliga, while they still have to play each other.
