The goalkeeper situation - TalkSoccer

As you all know, the mighty One is retiring at the end of the season, as is the ancient Bernd Dreher, which will leave us only with Michael Rensing and probably Thomas Kraft (at least for now).

Michael Rensing is supposedly guaranteed a starting spot next season, but that decision is not up for Hitzfeld to make nor for the Bayern board, so this situation can change in a blink of an eye when Jürgen Klinsmann takes over.

Thomas Kraft has never played for Bayern's first team as far as I know, so I highly doubt he will be our number 2, just can't see it happening and we've been linked with many goalkeepers over the past weeks.

Now, there are many things that can happen and I'm giving you the chance to state your opinion on the matter. Here are the possible scenarios I can think off (I'll add a poll so vote but please state your reasons):

- Rensing should start, with Kraft as number 2
- Sign a goalkeeper (please specify) who can fight for a spot with Rensing
- Sign an oldie who is comfortable with the sub role and start Rensing
- Sign a top class goalkeeper (please specify) and bench Rensing
- Sell Rensing and sign someone (please specify)
- Bring back Sepp Maier from retirement

This is a delicate issue, it must be solved smartly.

Till the 2-2 draw with Aberdeen, I've held my opinion that Rensing should be no.1, buy a no.2 and have Kraft as no.3.

But, erm.. Aberdeen match has raised some doubts.

And in the other side, Rensing's very good recent performances can't be ignored, it's a fact Bayern are unbeaten with him in goal.

I can't decide strongly, but I think I'm not going to change my opinion.

I doubt Rensing will be denied the no.1.

Well you have to mention he wasn't really fit for the match against Aberdeen, though i can easily say i would've saved that.
I think match practice will clear all of his mistakes so i voted for #3

I am still with my old opinion: Sign a top class goalkeeper (please specify) and bench Rensing. That top class goalkeeper should be Frey, Boruc, Akinfeev or my favourite Casilas (but that is imposibile

, so forgot it) Rensing cant be #1 and he prove that in match vs Aberdeen, so there is nothing else to talk againts him, only watch this game and all is clearly.

The goalkeeper should be German!
Doesnt matter if it's Rensing, Neuer, Adler, Wiese or whoever, he has to be German!

Our best player is French and our next captain is either French (Sagnol), Brazilian (Lucio) or Dutch (MvB).

Bayern is a German team?
I'm ok with buying a foreigner when there are no class Germans in that position, but the goalie? Germany has always had the best goalies and it would be a shame for the best German team to have a foreign goalie

And imo MVB should be the next captain even though he isnt the best at it, just because he is "closest" to German, but thats my opinion.

There are class German offensive midfielders in BL, you've got Hilbert, Borowski, Streit, Hizlsperger, to name a few, heck Piggy and Kroos.

I honestly don't see a problem, seeing as our current German goalkeeper is shit (Rensing).

Van Bommel should get sent back to Holland and a top class DM who can indeed tackle should join Bayern

list of best GKs in the world.. probably something like this..

1. casillas
2. buffon
3. cech
etc etc

who's the first german on this list.. lehmann probably. and no one wants him.
germany have no world class GKS right now. so if we want a class gk we have to look elsewhere.

We don't have one of the 3 best goalkeepers at the moment true. But no one would doubt tosse that there is rarely another country with so much good gks. In many countries gks like Rost would be in the national team if not even gk number 1.

So Cech, Buffon or Casillas will come to Bayern?
Let me say it another way.
Let's say Rensing fails, the club kicks him out and is looking for a new goalie.
They want to sign a new young goalie for the next 10 years or so.
They have a choice - Neuer/Adler, who would happily join us imo, or they waste money on that Bolton goalie, Ali Al Habsi which everyone was talking about joining Bayern. Wouldn't it be a shame if the two young Germans are just knocking on the door and Bayern buy that Arab guy?!

1 bad game and you sharpen the knife and lit your torch to execute the guy. Shouldn't take up that kind of logic.

Picked option #3.

So what if Klinsmann is coming? The Bayern Board has already made certain that Rensing will be No.1 no matter what. A promise from Uli Hoeness, who will become Bayern President and will see to it that it happens.

The question is what goalkeeper will accept the No.2 slot?

I have no idea. So i'm not even going to bother guessing.

oh Man. I'll not even start the nationality talk. Because it's utter nonsense and Miguel has already said all there is to say to that point.

If i was Bayern manager i would cash out 10 mios to Leverkusen and buy Rene Adler. He is absolute world class and by far the best goalie in Germany right now..

Oh thinking of it, Wiese is also doing a really good job, but he would never come to Bayern in the first place.

I've always said, give Rensing a chance so i will stick with option 3. And i have to agree with Vargas. Totally no clue who should be #2

oh btw. klinnsmann already said he has full cofidence to Rensing, so... he will be #1 i think
