I agree with Snake that Boro is better than Ballack in terms of potential. I think alot of hype went to Ballacks head. Boro is a better finisher, much quicker, and he does have similar qualities with Ballack. I believe that if Bayern are smart over the next few years, that Boro could become huge. He started well at Werder, and has taken the next step at Bayern. To me he is better than schweini at times, but Boro and Schweini could pair up nicely along with Ribery in midfield. Boro is what I thought Sosa was going to bring to the field. In the next year or so we will see ZeRo move on, MvB might or might not be around, so more opportunities.

Anyway, keep up the good work Boro!!

He was always a class player, I'm not surprised by his form, the problem is if he can stay fit and play for more than a month or two and the highest level.

20 € on Borowski picking up an injury next month.

Borowski: That's More Like It

Quote:
Bayern Munich midfielder Tim Borowski has credited his side for the way they responded to their pummeling at home to Werder Bremen on the weekend.

Bayern progressed to the next round of the Cup with a morale-boosting 2-0 win over local rivals Nürnberg, and in doing so began making some amends for contriving to get thrashed by their own fans at the start of Oktoberfest.

“We’ve come up with the right answer today, not just by winning, but because we were compact, we covered a lot of ground, and our movement was good," said Borowski.

"We can build on that. We needed the second goal to settle ourselves down. We had the chances but didn’t take them, and that’s dangerous in a Cup battle, because you can concede a goal at any time. But we were clever and scored at the right time.“

Bayern and Germany defender Philipp Lahm was also satisfied, though not overwhelmed, with his side's response.

“We made too many errors against Bremen and we were disorganised in defence, but we were a lot better today," he told the club's official website after the game.

"We weren’t particularly convincing but we were solid. There was never any danger of us not winning. Nürnberg are in the second division, but they have a good team with good individuals. We still have a very long way to go.“

Tim stakes a claim
‘Borowski’s learnt a lot in recent months’
27.10.2008

Bayern led Fiorentina 2-0 midway through the second half last Tuesday, when the game entered its decisive phase with a string of chances at both ends. Jürgen Klinsmann leapt from his seat in the dug-out and gesticulated wildly at Tim Borowski, who was not getting back to defend as fast as the coach wanted. Borowski looked over to his boss, and shifted up a couple of gears – exactly as Klinsmann intended.

The scene was symptomatic of the learning process the coach has put Borowski through since his switch from Bremen to Munich in the summer. “Tim has learnt a great deal in the last three or four months. He’s learnt he has to work in two directions at Bayern, in defence as well as attack,” Klinsmann commented.

Best super sub in the league

Borowski’s attacking quality is not in doubt. Four Bundesliga goals make him the club’s top scorer, and also the best ‘super sub’ in the league. “He’s spent a decade in the Bundesliga, so we all know he’s superb going forward, has a fantastic shot, and also scores with his head,” said Klinsmann. “But he has to put in just as much effort in defence,” the coach continued, “if I lose possession, I have to turn round and get back to my position at 200 km/h.“

“He’s been working on it and put in a lot of extra training,” revealed Klinsmann, happy at his midfielder’s progress. “He’s showing more presence, his body language has improved, and he’s much, much better when we don’t have the ball.“ Borowski has started only two of Bayern’s thirteen games so far, but has channelled his understandable frustration into working even harder.

Midfield competition

“I can’t be accused of not doing my best in training,” said Borowski, accepting the ferocity of the battle for places at his new club. “We have a surplus of midfielders, all of them internationals, all of them determined to play. And I’m not being envious when I say that Zé Roberto is in stunning form and Bastian Schweinsteiger’s doing really well. But it’s early days and it can all change.“

Tim is happy enough to wait for his chance. “I’m trying to do my best as a sub and show why I was brought here,” he says. It went well after he came on as a second half substitute against Wolfsburg, with a header in the build-up to Bayern’s equaliser, and a powerful drive to make the score 3-2. “It was an important goal and I was delighted with it,” he commented.

No regrets

He is continuing to give of his best every day in a bid for regular status. “I have to stick at it and show the coaches I belong in the starting line-up,” he declared, denying he regretted leaving Bremen. “It was the right step, and an important one for my career.“ He is unconcerned for now at losing his place in the Germany squad. “What matters is playing time for Bayern. The rest follows automatically from that.“

Boro has certainly staked a claim for more appearances in the future. “Tim is making it hard to leave him on the bench,” Klinsmann confessed. Could Borowski start in Frankfurt on Wednesday? “He’s knocking, and wants to be let in,“ the coach remarked.

It really makes sense of what is happening with Boro and why he is coming in as a sub. I can see where he starts soon, as with so many games we will see older players needing a rest like ZeRo and MvB.

"We'll need to be on our toes"

Quote:
FC Bayern are back to their old confident selves in the wake of a recent run of victories. Ahead of the Champions League encounter at Fiorentina nobody at the club is talking about going there looking for a draw - in public, at any rate.

Tim Borowski is no exception and, as he tells bundesliga.de in interview, "We've got to focus on our strengths and go flat out. If we do, there's nobody who can stop us."

bundesliga.de: What are your expectations of the trip to Fiorentina? You won the home game 3-0, but it was a lot closer than the scoreline suggests.

Tim Borowski: We're very confident. We dominated Fiorentina for long stretches of the game here in Munich. They had their chances too, of course. But at the end of the day we have to be going there aiming to win it again. So we certainly won't be playing for a draw.

bundesliga.de: What lessons can be taken from the first game? What will you have to watch out for?

Borowski: The likes of Mutu and Gilardino pose a constant threat. You're better off not letting them get a sniff of goal in the first place. We'll really need to be on our toes there. But rather than worrying about our opponents we've got to focus on our strengths and just go flat out. If we do, there's nobody who can stop us.

bundesliga.de: To what do you attribute the upturn in FC Bayern's form in recent weeks?

Borowski: We have the psychological strength to come from behind and win. That's something we didn't have in place at the start of the season. And now we're pretty much putting into practice what the coaching team are asking of us, getting the ball forward at speed with one or two passes. That's particularly important against the likes of Bielefeld who, as our sporting director puts it, play with 17 men at the back. I don't think we've reached anything like our full potential yet, but we're certainly moving in the right direction.

bundesliga.de: Getting forward at pace seemed to be working to the detriment of the defence in the early part of the season, when there were a lot of goals conceded.

Borowski: We had a few problems at the start, that's for sure. When you play a high-risk game you're obviously going to be more exposed by any mistakes you make, that's just part of the package. We're in the process of reducing those mistakes to a minimum and it's getting better from game to game.

bundesliga.de: Your own situation at FC Bayern has taken a distinct turn for the better as well recently. You were in the starting line-up against Frankfurt and Bielefeld. What's your take on your current position?

Borowski: We've put a good run together and I've played my part in that. I knew before I came that the situation here would be a bit different. I might have seen more action slightly earlier if I hadn't picked up the injury in pre-season training. Now things are progressing step by step and I'm very satisfied, it's all moving in the right direction.

bundesliga.de: Are you now hoping for a recall to the national set-up sometime soon?

Borowski: I'd be delighted to be invited along, for sure, and it's certainly my ambition to play for the national team again. But it's not something that's occupying my thoughts at the moment.

bundesliga.de: What goes through your head when you see the way Hoffenheim are playing at the moment?

Borowski: It reminds me a bit of the year we won the double at Bremen. We played a similar kind of game. We were all really up for it and had the same footballing philosophy. You have to respect what Hoffenheim have achieved. They're a very good young team, brimful of ambition. They certainly have to be taken seriously.

bundesliga.de: Do you see Hoffenheim as potential title challengers?

Borowski: If you're top of the table after eleven games and in the kind of form they're in, you've got to be counted among the favourites.
