wow this is a big shocker
Hitzfeld just suspended Oliver Kahn for the game against Berlin because of "disciplinary reasons". He also fined him 25.000 Euros.
They didn't give an explanation on the reason. German media speculates on 2 reasons. Kahn left the teams christmas party early while the rest of the team stayed or Kahn critizism on the Team, espescially Toni and Ribery.
he quote said that Bayern is one of the top 8 clubs in Europe and it's not enough to just play 2-3 games good and then take a timeout like you could do in Marseille or Fiorentina

Yeah. I read that too that he said that about the team. I read the article in spanish so i didn't bother quoting it in here. But i think he really said that. If you found it too it's a matter of time before they put it up somewhere in an English website.

Hitzfeld hands Kahn one-match suspension
Bayern will travel to face Hertha BSC Berlin in the Bundesliga this coming Saturday without captain Oliver Kahn. Announcing the 38-year-old’s suspension via a news release on Tuesday lunchtime, coach Ottmar Hitzfeld cited “disciplinary reasons“ for the internal penalty. The head coach has also ordered the goalkeeper to pay a €25,000 ($36,700) club fine.
The reasons behind the shock reprimand would be dealt with internally, the club said. No further statement would be released to the media. Oliver Kahn took part in Tuesday morning’s squad training session as normal.
Lucky charm Rensing
The development means Michael Rensing is set for another outing in goal on Saturday. Kahn’s designated successor as number one keeper enjoyed a rare run in the first team in September and October after the captain underwent surgery to repair an elbow injury. 23-year-old Rensing’s seven-match tenure produced six victories and a draw.
Rensing’s overall record for Bayern will inspire confidence for the final league match before Christmas in Berlin. Kahn’s understudy has yet to lose in 17 Bundesliga appearances (12 wins, 5 draws).

Angry Kahn rages at Toni Tuesday 11 December, 2007
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bayern Munich goalkeeper Oliver Kahn has hit out at Luca Toni after the marksman's recent dry spell.
The former Fiorentina star raced to nine Bundesliga goals in Bayern’s superb start to the campaign, but he has since scored just once in seven outings.
As Die Roten face the prospect of losing their top spot over Christmas, Kahn has criticised the way the new faces have let their standards drop in recent weeks.
“The new players need to get used to our high expectations,” the 38-year-old rasped in Kicker Magazine.
“It’s not enough to make a bright start - one or two players have to learn that two or three good games aren’t enough.
“Bayern is not Marseille or Fiorentina – we are like Real Madrid, Barcelona or Manchester United.
“Furthermore, it is hard to get the team together as we always need three interpreters. We aren’t playing enjoyable football anymore and every game it is getting a bit worse.”
Before the Christmas break, Bayern must travel to Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga and host Greek outfit Aris Salonika in a UEFA Cup clash.

Well, Klose also has just 1 goal in his last 7 Bundesliga matches as well...so to just call out Toni is bullshit when both haven't been performing at their best.
And I hope he's not mentioning Ribery as well, because he's been great lately.

It doesn't suit a captain and certainly not Oliver Kahn to say this !! . . .

I wasn't really surprised by the news. I knew instantly were the suspension is coming from.
Kahn talked shit (over Toni and Ribéry). Add the fact that he left the Xmas party earlier.
Good decision over the suspension, really.
The team captain has to be an example of the others.

If he really did say that, and it looks like he did, a suspension is very much warranted.
I'm not sure what color the sky is where Kahn is, but its a known fact that most players, if not all, take the better part of a year to adjust to new clubs or for that matter, new countries and leagues.
I think he should just retire, Bayern must surely have somebody in the pipeline?

No, no, no.
Just some poor performances recently.
Some unexpected results (draws), that shouldn't have normally happened.

Well, they lead the league, and they are coming off a crap season last year, I think the team has great potential, with Toni.
Kahn must be just spouting off as he sees the writing on the wall.

German teams/coaches seem to be strict when it comes to disciplin. That's a good thing. Otherwise the player will never learn what it means to be disciplined.

I think this is what bayern needed to get back on track. a shock like that will boost up thier form drastically IMO, and this is possibly what kahn tried to do.
and about the things he said... just like edmilson, it would be a thousand time better if he said those things privately to his teammates and not to the press.
the christmas party story is just funny.
ribery was amazing even in the last period when bayern were not playing well, so I think kahn was wrong here. about toni, I do agree. toni is not performing in the last few matches (even though he might have scored last week, but he's far from the form of the beginning of the season), not sure the reason is that he came from fiorentina though... doesn't make sense.

exactly... just look at rijkaard, edmilson went out speaking huge shit about the barcelona dressiing room ("the Black Sheep article") and nobody said anything to him, just a few players like xavi said to the press that it is not good... but rijkaard just ignored.
barcelona won't suspend puyol even if he slaps rijkaard and punches laporta...

I don't think he was supended because of the things he said about ribery and Toni. Kahn always has been the big mouth and Bayern never punished him for what he said.
But the christmas party story is the true reason.
He left the christmas party early and told Hoeness that he has some important buisness to do and Hoeness accepted that. But Kahn then was seen later with his girlfriend in a restaurant. So they punished him because he lied to them.
