But the christmas party story is the true reason.

He left the christmas party early and told Hoeness that he has some important buisness to do and Hoeness accepted that. But Kahn then was seen later with his girlfriend in a restaurant. So they punished him because he lied to them.

Ottmar Hitzfeld has faced the media almost every day in his long and distinguished career, but the Bayern boss can rarely have appeared as focused and tense as he did just after midday on Wednesday while waiting to address a packed news conference at the Säbener Strasse. The General was preparing to reveal the reasons why he has suspended Oliver Kahn for Saturday’s match in Berlin, and fined the club captain a hefty €25,000.

Kahn to remain captain

Hitzfeld emphasised that Kahn, who missed Wednesday training with back pain, was not being stripped of the captaincy, and would return to the team for the UEFA Cup meeting with Aris Salonika: “The situation is very clear. I’ve been very, very satisfied with him down the years, I have lots to thank him for, and the club has lots to thank him for. Olli has always been a role model, and he should strive to continue as a role model. I want him to remain an influential personality.“

Hitzfeld cited two cases in which Kahn had failed to fulfil his obligations to the club. First, the 38-year-old explicitly criticised certain team-mates in an interview published on Monday. “This cannot be allowed to happen, or we’ll have a madhouse here,” Hitzfeld commented. Second, Kahn chose to make an early departure from Saturday’s team Christmas party, leaving Mark van Bommel to step in and deliver the traditional captain’s speech.

Kahn ‘neglected duties’

“His behaviour at the Christmas party was unacceptable. The captain can’t be leaving early to go home or anywhere else without prior agreement. As captain, Oliver Kahn must act as an example to the team, because his team-mates take their lead from him.“ The keeper had blatantly neglected his duties in this case. “If I turn a blind eye, how would I be able to discipline players who know the captain’s allowed to get away with it?” Hitzfeld asked.

However, the General made it crystal clear that Kahn’s punishment was a warning to the entire team. “We’ve had a few negative headlines, and I’ve stood and watched for long enough. This signal is intended for internal consumption. Every player must understand the need for comradeship and unity if we are to achieve our goals, and we’ve set our sights high this season,” Hitzfeld declared.

Hitzfeld to introduce code of ethics

For this reason, the coach has decided to draw up a code of ethics during the mid-season break, establishing priorities for players at the club, and laying down rules for behaviour in public. The code will be used specifically as a guide for the playing staff. “It will encourage some of the players to stop and consider their responsibilities to Bayern Munich, in public and in the dressing room.“

Hitzfeld hopes the new measure will assist the widely differing personalities in his multi-cultural squad to adhere to a consistent line. “We’re definitely still a team in transition, and we’ve not yet experienced the highs and lows which help you grow together,” the coach reasoned. The 58-year-old is determined to re-focus the club’s energies back onto football: “We need to put an end to the turmoil. We simply can’t afford sideshows,“ he concluded.

I'm not sure what color the sky is where Kahn is, but its a known fact that most players, if not all, take the better part of a year to adjust to new clubs or for that matter, new countries and leagues.

I think he should just retire, Bayern must surely have somebody in the pipeline?

Maybe it's the fact that he doesn't play very often so he needs time, but he showed a shitty positioning during that month .

Convicing a person and convincing the majority is two different things.

Rensing did a good job, managed some clean sheets.

A fact is, we didn't loose with him on goal.

Kahn should have been punished more, says Netzer

Bayern Munich captain Oliver Kahn was lucky to escape with a 25,000-euros (37,500-US dollars) fine and one-match suspension for his behaviour last weekend, according to former German international Guenter Netzer.

Kahn was reprimanded on Tuesday for comments made on Monday when he criticised Bayern's stars Franck Ribery and Luca Toni for inconsistent performances and then made an early exit from the club's Christmas party on Saturday.

But coach Ottmar Hitzfeld's sanctions have generated plenty of debate in Germany with former midfielder and TV pundit Netzer insisting Bayern should have taken a tougher line on the former German national captain.

"I would have punished him more and taken the captaincy off him, because his actions show his ignorance towards his role in the team," said Netzer, who won 37 caps and helped West Germany win the 1972 European Championships.

Kahn has kept the captaincy, but is suspended for Saturday's Bundesliga clash with Hertha Berlin and should be back in goal for next Wednesday's UEFA Cup clash against Greek side Aris Thessaloniki.

On a more serious note Sad to hear a legend get suspended but it seems like its warranted.Bayern will bounce back.

to be honest Kahn has on OK season. but a brilliant one ??? I don't think so. He only really shined in the cup vs burghausen with those 2 penalties saved. But otherwise ? NO screw ups yeah, but no "OMG how did he save that one !!" moments either. If you do a kahn highlight tape, this season will not have any vids in it. ok maybe the one of his last bundesliga match and the suspension but no saves

And i think the suspension was just a last resort of Hitzfeld. He had to get most of the team back behind him, cause there is several who are really pissed at him lately. Sagnol, mvb, ribery, schweini and poldi to name the most important ones.
he hit out at kahn to get some respect back but i think he should rather finally get out of his ass change the tactics and change the whole style of the team. Time to pull one out of his hat or it will be too late

There are no reasons to complain, Kahn hasn't been fantastic as you said, but he definitely hasn't screwed up.

I think Hitzfeld did the right thing, the suspension was needed. Kahn did bad, he has been punished for it and has apologized for his actions. End of story

You should be pleased because i mentioned him .

IMO, he is overrated, i don't think that he will be so great behind the La Liga defenses or in the Primer league, don't forget that he played last season in the second league ( i don't want to get off-topic but you opened this, lets end this here ) .

You talk as if Kahn has never made mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes. 1 slip up in 4-5 matches and you don't get off his back.
