#33 Breno
Bayern Munich are believed to have found an agreement with Sao Paulo regarding the transfer of the highly rated central defender Breno, according to Bild.
The 18-year-old has impressed since making his debut in the Brazilian top flight. The solid defender helped his team to win the league last term and has been linked to Real Madrid.
The promising player is under contract until June 2011 and his employers have tried to make him sign an extension, but it appears that the Bundesliga giants have convinced the youngster to move to Germany.
Former striker Giovani Elber, who has become a scout for Bayern in the last few months, has advised the club to sign Breno, who could cost them £10 million.

Unless we're planning on selling Ismael and van Buyten, I don't see the point of this transfer

Breno is not being eyed as a starter, I think.
He may be an unknown name, but he's sure a prospect worth gambling on.
We're not the only team around interested in him.
Ismael hasn't played for some time, it would be a gamble having him as first back-up. Van Buyten on the other side is inconsistent.

That doesn't matter, they could be the 2 worst CBs in the world, but we're paying their salary. If this Breno comes, not only will we pay Lucio's, Demichelis', Van Buyten's and Ismael's salaries, but also Breno's salary, which surely ain't cheat. Not to mention that 14m € for a rather unproven player is far too much.
Plus, we still have Hummels who was the best CB in the regional liga nord last season for Bayern's reserves. He'd never get a chance if Breno is signed.

I still remember the Robinho case some years ago.
We were the first European team to show interest in him, when he was an unknown and uproved, just like Breno.
And what happened everyone knows.
Madrid stole him.

True. Besides. Ismael is on his last playing days. Van Buyten is inconsistent and tends to fuck up. It wouldn't be bad getting this dude. But the price makes me have second thougths.

Robinho overrated anyway, it's not like we lost much.
My point is that we really don't need a new CB, if the club wants to sign brazillian youngsters, then get an 18 year-old DM

We do need a new CB.
It's a transfer issue for some years now.

Atm we don't.
We didn't have a partner for Lucio, now we've got Demichelis, problem solved.
Ismael and van Buyten are the reserves (good ones I might add) and Hummels is the youngster who will develop into a good player.

I agree on the current partnership. It's wonderful.
But we need a good back-up. I don't trust Ismael or van Buyten.

He is young and promising, Real Madrid are also interested. I hope we get him for a reasonable price

Well I don't trust van Buyten either. I can't comment on Ismael just yet, he hasn't played for almost a year so we don't know how much that has affected him, but he was good in his first season, much better than van Buyten actually.
Do you think Breno would be a good back-up ? Tbh I don't. For a few reasons:
1. He has no experience
2. Never played outside Brazil
3. Brazilians take ages to adapt to the European style of play, very few are instant success's
4. A 14m € worth back-up ? no thanks
The only point in favor I can think of, is the fact that we have Brazilians in the squad who can tutor Breno. Other than that, it's IMO a pointless signing.

You've just said the reason why we can't be so secure with Ismael there.

I don't know. I'm thinking it would be worth gambling.
I'd be very pissed off if another team signed him and he showed brilliant performances there.
We need a back-up CB, so who would you bring mate, if not Breno?
Btw, I've read some different articles of Bayern-Breno case.
Some say Breno is set to partner Lucio at central back.
I'd say pure bullshit, Hitzfeld doesn't intend to change the actual partnership.

I'd give him the benefit of the doubt

I don't know. If I had seen him play I'd tell you if he is worth it, but since I'm yet to see him play, I'm doubting this signing as I know the history of Brazilians in Europe. You should've seen Pepe in his first season for Porto, he was painful to watch.

No idea to be honest, but definitely not 14m € worth back-up.
