I don't think we can expect too much from him right now. Starting next year, Breno should get a few more looks but he's probably not going to be a full-timer for at least two more years. I do think he will develop into a world-class CB, though, but he's just too young now.

Every player I have ever seen coming out the first time has never really impressed me, it takes a few games. Especially for someone coming from south america (where he was player of the year), and to a cold environment in January, and sit a few months on the bench, of course he won't show everything he is capable of. Considering all things, he impressed me enough -- in which my first statement I said I was never really impressed for first time runouts -- so I believe he has what it takes, even right now. Every other club in Germany rushed their Winter signings to play right away and it took them a few games too -- but Bayern have always taken the patient road with players, even after they are injured -- unlike teams like Werder who *cough* rushed Frings back in too early a couple of months ago and he got another knee injury. So give him time and he will be more than suitable for Bayern

Yeah, I agree. I like this guy and I think he'll do very well in the future. But he's still got a lot to learn.
After all, he's only 18.

Breno will be wearing the number 33 shirt next season.

He used to wear the number 35 shirt, but the number has now been asigned to third goalkeeper Thomas Kraft.

Why 33? I think he should have the number 4. Or is it planned for someone special?

33 Was Wessles and Guerrero's old numbers.

Breno

Breno Vinicius Rodrigues Borges joined Bayern from FC Sao Paulo during the last winter break. "He is good in the air, quick and can play with both feet", former Bayern striker Giovane Elber rings the praises. Breno has made just two competitive matches for Bayern so far, but he is seen as Lucio's long-term replacement by many. "I'm convinced he will be a great player, to the delight of Bayern", departed coach Ottmar Hitzfeld said. Just like Sosa, Breno won't be around when Bayern kick off the season. The 18-year-old will captain Brazil at the Olympics in Beijing.

Default Youngster shines in first top flight start

Quote:
Flawless Breno

Breno had to wait a long time for this moment, 271 days to be precise, the length of time between the Brazilian starlet’s arrival at Bayern on 1 January this year and his first Bundesliga start. The former Sao Paulo youth had previously managed just 17 minutes in the German top flight, but covered the full distance in Saturday’s away meeting with Hannover, and harvested praise from all sides afterwards.

“Breno was our best player today,” commented general manager Uli Hoeneß. “We were extremely pleased with him. He gave a flawless display,” agreed coach Jürgen Klinsmann on Sunday morning. “He’s signified his readiness for more.“

Breno’s lack of match practice was hardly noticeable in Hannover. With Lucio rested and Daniel van Buyten hampered by an injury, the youngster impressed with a calm and intelligent performance alongside Martin Demichelis. “He tackled well, he boasts a lightning turn of pace, and he’s collected on the ball, even when surrounded by three or four opponents. He’s exceptionally mature for his age,” Klinsmann observed.

The starlet is competing for playing time against the formidable trio of Lucio, Demichelis and van Buyten. His previous appearances for the first team have been restricted to the brief run-out in Wolfsburg on 4 May, and 90 minutes in a practically meaningless UEFA Cup Round of 16 return at home to RSC Anderlecht on 12 March.

The 18-year-old spent a lot longer on the field for Brazil at the Olympics. “The Games were a boost for him. He came back superbly fit and made a really good impression in training,” commented Klinsmann. The second-youngest player in the squad “has come on very, very well,“ the coach enthused. The start in Hannover was a reward for Breno’s hard work in training, Klinsmann revealed.

Breitner convinced

The club is convinced Breno has a glorious career ahead of him. “We didn’t sign him with the intention of putting him in the team 14 days later. It was an investment for the future,” FCB special advisor Paul Breitner recently stated in an fcbayern.de interview.

“We reckon Breno has everything needed to become one of the best defenders in the league a couple of years from now. I’m sure Jürgen will bring him on step by step,” Breitner continued. “Breno is a brilliant footballer, the best 18-year-old I’ve ever seen by a very long way.“

One of the few positive things about the game versus Hannover.

Breno showed that even so young, he has the balls to deal with the Bundesliga rivals.

I've been impressed with Breno in every match I've seen him play.

The guy has the balls indeed. I've seen that, he is not afraid of anyone. I like how he does his work without comitting many fouls.

In Kahn's testimonial match, he stopped Mario Gomez in a classy way. He neutralized Mario I shall say, and it didn't look like it was tough for Breno.

He has a very bright future for sure, and I'm glad we've got him.

About time we've made a successful transfer from South America. Because, we've had some very poor scouts. But, we're already seeing the results of the appointment of Elber as the scout for that region.

I sure hope to see more of him, as he already has what it takes to start important matches. Now that Lell is out, I wonder if he also could easily fill in at RB when needed. The more the better.

Breno set to celebrate

Quote:
The club’s Olympic bronze medallist Breno should finish the week with two reasons to celebrate. The talented Brazilian turned 19 on Monday, and his partner Renata is expecting the couple’s first child any day now. “It could start at any time,” the defender revealed to fcbayern.de, “I’m really excited and looking forward to holding my own son in my arms.“ Breno’s boy will be named Pietro: “He’ll make me even stronger,“ the father-to-be said.
