Toni battling for fitness
Bayern are determined to set out their stall right from the start, and may be able to call on Luca Toni’s assistance after the World Cup winner continued to come through training unscathed following a knee injury. However, Hitzfeld could not confirm whether the Italian might feature in the matchday squad. “You’d normally need three to four weeks of the squad training programme to achieve match fitness,” the coach pointed out.
Miroslav Klose is hoping to hook up with his designated strike partner as soon as possible. “It’s time for Luca to recover fitness,“ the former Bremen hitman declared after spending much of the pre-season period as a lone striker supported by a five-man midfield.

|
Among all doubts, just before the kick-off, Ottmar Hitzfeld decided to play Italian striker Luca Toni, who just returned from injury, from the 1st minute. Luca Toni even scored on his Bundesliga debut today, against Hansa Rostock, in the 14th minute, after an assist from Miro Klose.
Bravo Luca!
Toni's goal is actually Bayern's 1900th home goal in Bundesliga.
Btw, the first home goal in Bundesliga was scored by Rainer Ohlhauser, on 21st August 1965. Bayern beat Frankfurt that day, 2-0 was the score. Match was played in Grünwalder Stadion.

He played well, shame about the offsides but that was probably because he wasn't at his best yet (physically speaking that is).

Toni: My perfect Bayern bow Sunday 12 August, 2007
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Luca Toni admits his winning Bundesliga debut for Bayern Munich was “perfect” and will have impressed Italy Coach Roberto Donadoni.
“I really missed celebrating by holding my hand up to my ear. I hope to do that many more times,” said the 2006 Golden Shoe winner.
He took just 14 minutes to break the deadlock in the 3-0 win over Hansa Rostock – quite an achievement considering he was not even expected to play due to injury.
“I didn’t expect to take part, let alone play the whole game. I was out for a month and only started training with the squad again on Thursday and the Coach didn’t know whether to call me up,” he told the ‘Gazzetta dello Sport’.
“It all went brilliantly, though. A goal, a win and an exceptional atmosphere. It really was a perfect day.”
Italy boss Donadoni was watching the match on television, which no doubt helped Toni’s chances of being picked for the Euro 2008 qualifiers against France and Ukraine.
“There are no problems with the Coach. He calls me and keeps up to date on my condition, so I know he is following my progress.”
The former Fiorentina striker has struggled with recurring injuries over the past few months, but finally seems to have turned a corner.
“The more I play, the fitter I become, but this is just the start. I have a good rapport with Miroslav Klose. Neither of us are egotistical in the penalty area, so we combine well. I am here to win every time.”
Toni has not lost sight of his ‘old’ life in Serie A, though, and sent a message out to the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
“I thank everyone for their kind words and want to give a public ‘good luck’ for the season to my former Fiorentina teammates.”

Terrific Toni on target again
Saturday 18 August, 2007
Luca Toni continues his remarkable Bayern Munich career by scoring for the second consecutive match.
The former Fiorentina striker netted in the 4-0 win away to Werder Bremen and earned a penalty for teammate Franck Ribery.
Miroslav Klose went off at half-time due to an injury, but substitute Hamit Altintop provided the cross for Toni’s goal.
It was the Italian’s second strike in as many Bundesliga games, having also hit the back of the net in his debut.
Toni has also found his form as an assist-man, setting up the third goal for Turkish midfielder Altintop before Andreas Ottl completed the rout.

He did good yesterday, a better performance than last weeks, definately. Wasn’t found offside a lot, which is a positive sign of improvement. He was just average in the first half, but credit to him for bringing the penalty. He did very much better in the second half. Controled the ball perfectly after Altintop cross, and scored a good goal.
