FCB - Transfer Talk
Quote:
Bayern Munich defender Willy Sagnol reckons the club should sign his fellow France international Franck Ribery as they are lacking creativity in midfield.
The full back told Die Welt that Bayern have a long way to go before they can build a team that can conquer Europe again.
With the 2001 winners having to deal with a number of high-profile departures, Sagnol would like to see Ribery trade Marseille for the Allianz Arena.
"We lost many important players such as Ze Roberto, [Bixente] Lizarazu and Jens Jeremies," he stated.
"Yes, Ballack [too].
"We tried to sign players, with Ribery and [Ruud] van Nistelrooy.
"But it did not happen. Nevertheless, if Bayern spend &euro50 or &euro60 million on two or three players then that does not absolutely guarantee success.
"I can understand the club's policy. The financial risk would be much too high.
"We must strengthen the squad step by step meaningfully, then perhaps we can win the Champions League in two or three years."
Ribery would be a welcome addition to the squad, in Sagnol's opinion.
"That is nothing new [missing a playmaker]," he explained.
"We have lacked a creative player, a technical player in the middle, for five years.
"Ribery would have been one of those players who can decide a match with a pass or a run."
The experienced defender is convinced Bayern can win Europe's biggest prize again in the future.
"Yes, and I trust this club," he answered.
"Otherwise I would have gone to Milan or Turin."

I don't agree.
In my opinion, Ribery is very overrated, he isn't a creative midfielder like Sagnol says.
He is just a pacy winger.
Losing Ze Roberto, that was bad.

Well if he joins Bayern I'll hope that I'm wrong, but now I think is very overrated.
He is good in France with all those crapy defenders, but when he goes on-on-one with great defenders, then we will see if he has what it takes or not.
What did he do against Italy in the Final ? Nothing.

Ribery may be overrated but he can pace the attack. I saw him play against Portugal and he was very tough to handle.

Both Ribery and Schweinsteiger play in the left.
I don't see Ribery taking Schweini's place.

Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich have joined the race for Fiorentina striker Luca Toni, according to reports in Germany.
The World Cup winner appears keen to leave struggling Fiorentina for a bigger club which could guarantee him European football and a move to the Allianz-Arena might be appealing to the former Palermo ace.
Kicker claims that Bayern supremo Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is about to open talks with Toni's management as the Bundesliga outfit are keen to bolster their options in attack, with speculation suggesting that Claudio Pizarro's days in Munich could be numbered.
The Peruvian international is tied to the Bavarians until 2007, but talks about a new deal have stalled and coach Felix Magath is known to be a big fan of Toni, who would add power and physical presence to the club's often predictable style.
The news comes only days after Rummenigge revealed that in 2007 the club plans to spend a new Bundesliga record of up to €30 million on new players, but Bayern are set to face stern opposition from the likes of Internazionale and Milan for Europe’s golden boot winner.
Meanwhile, Franz Beckenbauer has been elected to serve a fifth straight term as Bayern Munich president.
The German legend received 98.2 percent of the vote and will continue in the role he has held since 1994.

Would be amazing to have Luca Toni at Bayern and I believe that Bayern can bring him.

Luca Toni wants to play in the CL, something that Bayern can provide him.
Why would he reject a move to one of the European giants ?

You have to be great to atract players like Toni and there are few clubs in Europe, that play in the CL, as great as Bayern.
