Werder Bremen have ruffled a few feathers in Bavaria by asking for Lukas Podolski in exchange for Miroslav Klose.
With all the pieces falling into place in the great rebuilding project at Bayern, one piece still seems to be eluding them - Klose.
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Uli Hoeneß, and Ottmar Hitzfeld have all stated their desire to have Klose at Bayern this season itself, rather than have to wait until his contract at Werder expires in 2008.
Klose himself has “told them plainly that he wants to join Bayern,” reported Hoeneß.
After Klose made his feelings clear, Bayern made their move, and Hoeneß has confirmed that there is an offer for Werder to consider: “Bremen received a firm offer from us 10 days ago. That is fair enough.”
Bayern are reported to have offered €10 million. However Bremen consider this offer too low, and have up brought the possibility of a player exchange with Lukas Podolski in the reckoning.
Bayern have immediately refused the demand. “Podolski will never be given away,” quipped Hoeneß who also described talk of a loan move to Bochum for Podolski as an ‘April Fools trick’.
