Also, for the Mertesacker comment, here we go with another German to bring in since he used to play for Klinsmann in the NT. This is stupid, look at the schoolboy defending he did last weekend and got suspended on top of it. Even when Bayern were interested in him a couple of years ago I didn't like him, and couldn't figure out why they were interested in him. In fact Van Buyten is much better than him, and we already have Lucio and Demichelis (a rock solid pair), and Breno as well. We don't need him.
As for Barca, they can go to hell!! Barca are in the process of falling apart, especially if Rijkaard heads out.

Definetly not
Ok against Stuttgart he played bad but nearly every defensive player on the field played bad that day plus he is 23 so still very young. In one or two years he is ready for a club like Manu or Barca
But anyway in todays Kicker Merte said that he won't leave Werder in the summer
if you want to hire a CB you could try to get metzelder if Real Madrid really wants to sell him

Only that Metzelder is injury prone -- at one point Bayern was interested, then he had a knee injury, and Bayern did a 180 and never thought about him again. Mertesacker's strength is his height and long legs for closing down fast, but I still don't think he is that great of a defender, but like you said, he wants to stay at Werder.

was only quoting a good friend.
Anyway About Merte himself. He is atm the by far best cb Germany has. He is rock solid and you can especially see in international matches how brilliant he is. In my eyes one of the best 10 cbs on the planet right now and especially one of the most promising as he is just 23. van Buyten is far off that class which market values clearly reflect too. 7 Mios compared to Merte's 15.
I also can't see it happen but it's not the first time i heard this rumor and appearantly it also was in several german papers

As King Kahn said himself, it has been the best defence he has ever played with. We have only conceded 11 goals in the Bundesliga. There is no rush for adjustments.

^Vargas_4 you said it all -- damn straight. No sense in bringing in Defenders to mix up our current good formula.

Personally, I'd welcome Mertesacker with open arms. I love Lucio and Demichelis in central defense but if the chance was there to land a world class defender as young as Per, you've got to make the move.

I agree. If the game last night showed anything then it is that you can't trust van buyten and lucio lately.
I resonally would sleep A LOT better with Demichelis / mertesacker as our cbs

Absolutely, Bremen played horrible today without Merte ....
Naldo was lost, Marcelinho was totally unmarked .

great english
I really hope Merte is not joning because it is really getting boring now. Bayern should try to buy another team weak and not always us
I think you will find another excellent CB somwhere else. Maybe in the french league. They always have some excellent CBs and french teams mostly give away there players easy if have the money

I've read the same, but I wouldn't believe it. Lucio won't leave, not at least before summer 2009, I think.

According to Munich's AZ newspaper, the 29-year-old has reportedly agreed a deal with Barcelona and will leave for an estimated €20 million in the summer.

HAHAHA!!! and they are planning to bid a whopping €10m **SARCASM**, WOW! AC Milan are dreaming. He chose to come to Bayern instead of teams like AC Milan last year, why does goal.com keep posting bullshit like this? I would imagine AC Milan would have to pay something like €50m to get him, not just 10. AC Milan also say they want schevchenko back, what desparate fools.

^Especially before Breno is fully integrated, and Lucio helps him out alot. Although 20m sounds like alot, I only wish we could sell Van Buyten for that much and get another CB.
