"The bigger picture convinces"
Quote:
FC Bayern München are starting to play like a strong side again. Their 2-1 victory against Schalke marked the team's fifth Bundesliga win in a row. As a result, the record-holding champions narrowed their distance to the top of the Bundesliga table to a single point.
Talking to bundesliga.de, FCB keeper Michael Rensing sees the autumn championship within close reach again.
bundesliga.de: Schalke 04 were dominating the match for long stretches at a time, but FC Bayern emerged victorious with a 2-1 win. Why is your club winning matches now that they were losing at the beginning of the campaign?
Michael Rensing: At the beginning of the season, we always stressed that we needed a bit of time to implement our new strategy. We had a lot of difficulties at the start. We have been improving from match to match, after we had laid down the system. Above all, we have made the a lot of progress with our defensive unit and in attack too. The return of Franck Ribéry is helping us along a lot. We perform as a team, so united and strong. Even if we have been set back in recent weeks, we come back better and stronger and can always turn it up a notch. That constitutes our strength at the moment.
bundesliga.de: Especially in the first half, Schalke were pressing with lots of opportunities but did not capitalize on them. Was cleverness the determining factor in this equation?
Rensing: After the equalizer, I thought it was going to be very, very hard. We'd had a few problems in the midfield. Our order was a little bit lost. We let Schalke play too much and allowed them too many centre strikes. But during the course of the match, most notably in the second half, we managed to get a hold of it. Then, we drove the game home safely and surely. We could have made a third goal. All in all, we stood tall and didn't mess up. I'm glad that even if we didn't play so well this time, we still get to return to Munich with a victory.
bundesliga.de: The league leaders Hoffenheim lost. Your team is only one point behind the lead now. What do you think of that?
Rensing: We're in a very good position for the upcoming weeks. The autumn championship can be won. Certainly, we've had to keep an eye on how the top teams were playing during the last few weeks. But, if we keep collecting points the way we are now, we don't have to watch the others. We'll finish at the top.
bundesliga.de: There are still critical games coming up against Leverkusen and Hoffenheim. Do you still have a bone to pick with these two teams?
Rensing: Obviously, there are more than those two matches that will come up. One has to wait and see if those teams will remain at the top and consistently play well. But as I've said, we don't look at Hoffenheim or Leverkusen, only at ourselves.
bundesliga.de: Through your own strength, you've made the autumn championship a possibility again. Is that going to remain your aim for the coming matches?
Rensing: Of course it would be nice to head into the winter break on top of the table. But naturally, the end of the season takes precedence. If we continue to play like this, it looks very good.
bundesliga.de: Have you been satisfied with your own development in the last few weeks?
Rensing: It's not really about that. We're on a great streak and have won a lot of matches. You have to look at the bigger picture and it simply convinces.

I know European people find it odd but it ain't a big deal, kissing a man on the cheek as a greeting.
Many Arab countries have that. In Argentina they have that as well.

Ah come on dude, Rensing has been very good lately.
Every single Bayern fan on this site knows that I don't like him and wanted us to sign a new goalkeeper but I have to give him credit for stepping up and proving us all wrong, he's made some excellent saves in the past few weeks which kept us in the game, for instance vs Fiorentina.
Rensing is crap coming out, he really needs to improve that, he gets beaten quite easily when a cross comes in, but other than that, he has been solid lately. The fact that we've conceded goals in most of our recent matches has nothing to do with Rensing, it's the defence that has been crap.

He has a problem in his positioning.
He has the problem of "not responding" he has some sort of a problem in his reflexes.

Exactly. It's not a big deal.
In Latin America, it's normal for brothers to greet with a kiss on the cheek as well. Also, when they greet to their father as well.
But in the end, it's a thing of culture.
Point is, it's not such a big deal.

The thruth is: Rensing is not the perfect goalkeeper for us, and we cannot do anything right now, wait to winter transfers to see what will happen.

Well a week ago everyone was praising Rensing for his good performances now everyones back on criticising him, Make up your minds. The kid is growing both in confidence and in abilities. If we bring a new keeper it will be next year not during the fucken winter break.

Well said!! It seems everyone lacks a little consistency with Rensing.
