The former World Cup winner, Guido Buchwald has expressed interest to join the coaching staff of Jürgen Klinsmann at Bayern. He says he's in contact with Klinsmann, they have talked through phone, but nothing is concrete, as it was only a friendly call...

Buchwald was coach of Urawa Red Diamonds in Japan, and was very successful there. He recently was coach of Alemmania Aachen, where he was fired after 5 months.

His Individual honors as coach:

J-League Coach of the Year: 2006

His Team honors as coach:

J.League Champions: 2006
Emperor's Cup Champions: 2005, 2006
Xerox Super Cup Champions: 2006

Hm I don't think they will hire him. He failed at Aachen. I think it Klopp will be the Assistant.

To Dragoen: Doubt it. Just can't picture Klopp going a step back and becoming co trainer. Mainz is 2nd place right now and highly likely to play 1st Bundesliga next year

Default Buchwald interested in Bayern assistant post

Former World Cup winner Guido Buchwald has revealed an interest in becoming Jürgen Klinsmann’s assistant at Bayern Munich, when he takes over from Ottmar Hitzfeld in the summer.

“I am in contact with Jürgen by telephone, but just in a friendly way as normal” Buchwald admitted.

“He didn’t ask me whether I wanted to be his co-trainer, but it would be an interesting proposition for me.”

The ex-Alemannia Aachen trainer has been mentioned in the press as a potential candidate alongside former Bayern midfielder Andreas Herzog.

Whereas Buchwald has admitted an interest, Austrian Herzog has been a little more withdrawn in his response.

“There has been no contact and if I’m honest I’m not waiting for any” he said.

“He will probably get somebody else. Besides I’m concentrating on the European Championships right now.

“Everything else is just pure speculation.”

Herzog is currently assistant to Austrian national team trainer Josef Hickersbeger.

In a poll at Sport1.de (Germany's biggest sport portal), there is the question on who will become Klinsi's assistant.

Results are:

Guido Buchwald 21.3%
Michael Henke (currently Hitzfeld's assistant) 12.5%
Andy Herzog 7.7%
Lothar Matthaus 24.2%
Another 34.3%

Total votes casted 41923.

Who will be Klinsmann's assistant? Sport1.de has named a few potential candidates.

Guido Buchwald (you already know about him),
Jürgen Hartmann (assistant of Buchwald at Aachen),
Dieter Eilts (Germany U21 coach),
Michael Henke (currently assistant of Hitzfeld),
Andreas Herzog (played together with Klinsi at FCB),
Krassimir Balakow (FC St. Gallen coach, former Stuttgart player),
Andreas Brehme (former coach of Kaiserslautern),
Jürgen Kohler (former Duisburg coach, former Dortmund player),
Lothar Matthaus (a known name)
Steffan Effenberg (FCB legend, no coaching experience)

Anyway, it doesn't mean one of those will come.

Could be yet someone else, out of this list.

Michael Henke has been Hitzfeld's assistant during his first spell at FCB, and again now.

Okay, we won CL and a lot other trophies during Hitz's first spell, but Henke and Hitzfeld don't seem to be doing any wonderful job currently. Henke, not a good candidate.

Anyone but Matthaus. I hate the guy. He's a shite coach.

agreed. will never be matthaeus. He and klinsmann hate each other ever since they played together for bayern in 95/96.

A lot of speculation up there. I really think you can rule out herzog, balakow, hartmann and effenberg. They all have no coaching experience except maybe assistant coach. Klinsmann will want a second jogi loew who complements him in the most important aspect: experience. And he will want someone round his age, cause i doubt a 60 year old set coach will take a step back and let klinsmann tell him what's up

edit: besides all germans here. I can very likely see him go for someone from italy, england or the states.....

Default Vogts Tight-Lipped Over Bayern

Former German national trainer Berti Vogts has remained tight-lipped over media reports that he is poised to link up with Jürgen Klinsmann at Bayern Munich next season.

Klinsmann will succeed Ottmar Hitzfeld as coach of the Bundesliga giants in the summer and speculation has suggested Vogts could work alongside him at the Allianz-Arena as a more experienced head.

Former Scotland coach Vogts, who took Germany to glory at Euro 96 finals with Klinsmann as his captain, is currently in charge of Nigeria and is preparing for the African Nations Cup, which kicks off in Ghana on January 20.

He told the Bild: "Bayern is the best run club in the world. It is clear that it would be fun to work for Bayern.

"But for now I am focusing only on the African Nations Cup. Therefore I ask for you to understand that at the moment I don't want to say anything more on this subject."

I have mixed feelings about him, I'm not sure whether he'd be a proper appointment.

and he took over leverkusen a few years ago, which ended in total disaster, they got almost relegated and lucky for them skibbe took over then

Well tehn let's see who we have here as a candidate.

Guido Buchwald (mhm maybe he did will with urawa but not so good with aachen),
Jürgen Hartmann (if you can get the first then why do you want to get his assistant?),
Dieter Eilts (if anything hw will become assitant in bremen he only played for Bremen like Schaaf so I can't see him going to bayern although he would be a good assistant),
Michael Henke (klinsi wants to make a new start so he will not take someone who has been bayern assistant for so long Henke will become Hitzfelds assistant in Switzerland),
Andreas Herzog (he is currently the assistant of Hickersberger and I can't see that he learns anything good from him ),
Krassimir Balakow (he just started as st Gallen coach but if they relegate he might be available),
Andreas Brehme (possible),
Jürgen Kohler (possible),
Lothar Matthaus (hell no please not him he is just a so bad coach plus he hates Klinsmann)
Steffan Effenberg (like written before he has no experience and Klinsmann will most likely hire someone who has experience)

i can 100 % agree to that. All very good points.

As long as it's not Matthaeus I'm good

Default Ardiles Touted As Possible Klinsmann Number Two

Reports in the Argentine press suggest that Jürgen Klinsmann could be lining up former Tottenham boss Ossie Ardiles as his assistant when he takes over at Bayern Munich in June.

Bayern's sports director Uli Hoeness stated earlier this week in an interview with Sportbild that Klinsmann has "arrived with many ideas and one of them is to have a South American assistant," which has prompted the Argentine media to suggest Ardiles as a candidate for the role.

Klinsmann played under Ardiles at Tottenham during the 1994/95 season and the two struck up a friendship that they still hold to this day.

Whilst Klinsmann has proved himself to be an expert an organising a framework upon which success can be built, his ability to train players on a day to day basis was frequently brought into question whilst he was the manager of Germany, with much of their success being attributed to his assistant Joachim Löw, who has since taken over the team.

It is in such a role similar to Löw's that Ardiles may prove useful, as he has extensive coaching experience having managed thirteen clubs in seven different countries since taking his first job at Swindon in 1989.

Having said that, Ardiles has not enjoyed much success at managerial level, particularly in recent years, and Klinsmann may therefore have some trouble convincing the Bayern board that the diminutive Argentine is the best person to have alongside him when he takes over in June.
