Schweini was outstanding against wales last night, he didn't slow the tempo as he usually do.

He tried several times to shoot from distance, I liked his shots honestly, he was very motivated and he wanted to score badly, bad luck thats it.

We can definitely say that Schweini is growing up, not only basing on last nights match, this whole season he was one of the best players, I am more than happy for this.

Bayern Seek Schweinsteiger Extension

Quote:
German champions Bayern Munich are seeking to get German international midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger to extend his contract at the club.

“We are optimistic that a solution can be found” explained Chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge on the clubs website. “We are interested in keeping him here.”

The midfielder’s current contract expires at the end of the current season and there has already been speculation linking him with a summer move to Juventus.

The first discussions between the player and manager Uli Hoeness have reportedly already taken place. 24 year old ‘Schweini’ has already chalked up 160 Bundesliga appearances for Bayern.

Bayern, despite a poor start to the season still have ambitions of being crowned Winter champions. The Bavarians currently lie five points behind leaders Hamburg.

“Our target is to be Winter champions” stressed Rummenigge. “It is important that we build upon the Karlsruher win. We are still not over the mountain, but we are still climbing.”

Bayern take on Wolfsburg at the Allianz Arena this weekend.

I can't understand what's taking so long. (Same case with Demichelis). Get to straight talk and finalise the shit.

Is he asking for more cash? Give it to him! We gotta tie him up with a new contract. He's a future captain.

The next step
Schweinsteiger rises up the hierarchy

Quote:
It comes as no surprise to discover that Bastian Schweinsteiger has not forgotten his first Bundesliga goal. “Left-footed, low into the bottom right corner to make it 1-1,” he recalls for fcbayern.de. The date was 13 September 2003, the place Wolfsburg. “Simon Jentzsch was the keeper,” the FCB midfielder continues.

Five years on, Wolfsburg provide the opposition again on Saturday, and Schweinsteiger is looking forward to the match. “I seem to enjoy playing Wolfsburg, I’ve always had a good game against them,” he says. However, the 24-year-old of today has little in common with the player of five years ago. “A lot’s happened since then. Naturally, my game’s come on,” he opines.

‘Remarkable’ progress

Nowadays, Bastian rates as an influential figure both for Bayern and for Germany, and never more so than in the last few weeks, when he has earned praise for a string of battling displays and moments of great skill at critical junctures. He has two goals and four assists to his name from seven Bundesliga appearances, and netted an excellent second goal on Tuesday in Bayern’s 3-0 victory over Fiorentina.

“We told Bastian at the beginning of the season that it was time he took the next step in his career, and that means consistency,” revealed Jürgen Klinsmann. With a quarter of the league programme completed, the coach is delighted with the midfielder. “We know he can play at a very high level, and he’s established himself up there right now. That’s remarkable.“

Climbing the hierarchy

The player himself agrees with the analysis. “I’ve basically been on consistently good form for the whole of this calendar year,” is his assessment, attributing the achievement to a new peak in physical fitness. “I feel great and I’ve avoided injury. We’ve had a lot of games in quick succession, but I have plenty in reserve.“

The player also has a new personal environment. “There have been a few changes: my house, my partner, my agent, and that’s made things better,” he reasons, a development clear to all both on and off the field. “His opinions are increasingly listened to in the dressing room, just like Philipp Lahm. Both are working their way up the hierarchy,” Klinsmann reports.

Extension under discussion

That is little surprise when you consider that at 24 years, two months and 22 days, Schweinsteiger has already made 160 Bundesliga appearances. FCB record holder Sepp Maier (473 appearances) was at 98 league matches at the same age. Bastian also has 61 full international caps, almost twice as many as the 33 recorded by Germany’s most-capped player, Lothar Matthäus, at the same stage of his career.

Schweini’s contract with Bayern expires at the end of the season, but the club is keen to retain his services, as chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge underlined on Thursday: “We’re very interested in him staying here.“ Schweinsteiger and Uli Hoeneß have held a first round of talks. “We’re optimistic. We think we’ll find a solution,” Rummenigge remarked.

Talking first to the club

Schweinsteiger himself named Bayern as “my first point of contact” in settling his future. The Bayern youth product is very much at home in Munich, partly because of reuniting with his brother Tobias, who switched from VfB Lübeck to third division SpVgg Unterhaching in the city’s southern suburbs last January. Perhaps that was the real reason for his upsurge in form, the 24-year-old joshed: “It’s gone really well since he moved nearer me.“

Schweinsteiger Will Cost Bayern

Quote:
With the contract of midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger due to expire in 2009, it looks likely that Bayern Munich are going to have to stump up the cash if they want the German international midfielder to extend his stay with the club.

The 24 year old will be available on a free transfer in the summer of 2009 if Bayern cannot convince him to sign a new deal at the Allianz Arena. Bayern have said that they want him to stay, but it could now be a matter of price.

According to reports in ‘Kicker’, Schweinsteiger’s advisor has already had contact with AC Milan, Juventus and Inter over a possible move for the Bayern midfielder. Bayern however are prepared to fight to keep their man.

“Bastian is a regular, a Bavarian, and a popular figure. We will do every thing we can to keep him” said club manager Uli Hoeneß on Thursday.

Hoeneß also confirmed that Italian clubs had been in contact with Schweinsteiger’s agent Robert Schneider. “It is the right of his advisor to attempt to raise the price and that’s what he’ll do.”

The result could therefore be that Schweinsteiger becomes too expensive for Bayern with the Serie A giants willing to pay huge wages for him.

“We will endeavour to keep him” added Bayer chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. “We’ve agreed with him to begin negotiations shortly, in order to extend his current contract. Bastian’s development is very satisfactory, he is fit and on form.”

Club president Franz Beckenbauer has also supported Bayern’s efforts to bind ‘Schweini’ to the Bavarian club.

“Bastian has got back to his old form. He is playing extremely well after a year of playing a little under-par.”
