No, sincerely, I've been following him close.

He's usually unnoticed.

Never liked him.

He'd be a decent back-up though..

.. but the dude wants to start, and that's impossible at Bayern (at least, in the near future).

I wouldnt like to see him go tbh, I think he has decent potencial. Remenber he did very well when Hargreaves was injured last season and he is the long term replacement for van Bommel.

Ottl will beim FC Bayern verlängern

Good news or not, Andreas Ottl has confirmed he's set to extend his stay with FC Bayern.

His current contract runs out in summer, and he wants it extended for three more years, until 30 June 2011.

In an interview with 'kicker' magazine, he said that he sees his chances at Bayern.

Exactly, with the new contract, we can at least cash in something.

Default Determined and ambitious | Local boy Andreas Ottl extends stay until 2011

Quoted in the Bayern Yearbook, Andreas Ottl lists his personal qualities as honest, ambitious and dependable. Germany’s leading club clearly values these attributes too, after agreeing a three-year contract extension with the 22-year-old midfielder on Friday. The player, who joined the club as an Under-12 in 1996 but whose current deal expires at the end of the season, will now stay at FCB until 30 June 2011.

“I’m delighted things have worked out,” declared Munich-born Ottl, who switched to Bayern from local outfit SV Nord-Lerchenau at the age of eleven. “I’ve been at the club for so long already,” continued the Germany U-21 international, a member of Bayern’s double-winning senior squad in 2006. As a youth, Andreas also collected national U-17 championship honours in 2001 and the U-19 national title in 2002 and 2004.

Willing to learn

Ottl has made 39 Bundesliga appearances for Bayern so far, 24 of them last term. However, after Zé Roberto’s return as a holding midfielder at the start of the 2007-8 campaign, Ottl has turned out just seven times in the league, with three UEFA Cup outings and one in the DFB German Cup.

“I know it’ll be very competitive for me, but I’m determined to make the breakthrough here,” declared Ottl, unfazed by the signing of Germany midfield ace Tim Borowski from Werder Bremen for next season. “I’ve proved my worth at the highest levels and I reckon I have a chance here. Also, I’m only 22, so I still have time to develop. I can easily improve by a few percent, and that’s to my advantage.“

Long-term perspective

In any case, and given that fellow defensive midfielders Zé Roberto and Mark van Bommel are 33 and 30 years old respectively, Andreas regards his new deal as a long-term rather than short-term matter. "I'd like to become one of the players capable of filling the holding role for Bayern Munich. I have good vision, I can open up a game, and I can bring the necessary stability to our defence," he told respected weekly journal kicker.

‘I’ll give it everything’
Determined Ottl ready to fight for his place

Quote:
Bayern youth product Andreas Ottl signed professional forms in July 2005. The local boy rounded off his first season in the senior side with a flourish, netting the equaliser in a 1-1 draw away to Kaiserslautern which earned FCB the Bundesliga title with a game to spare. Ottl made 24 appearances in the following campaign, but the combative midfielder was restricted to 19 outings last term, mostly as a substitute.

The player is determined to do better this season. “I’m not going to be satisfied with warming the bench,” the 23-year-old told reporters on Friday, although the Munich-born midfielder is fully aware of the intense battle for places in the team. “I’ll have to work hard in training and give it everything.“

Bowled over

Ottl believes he can profit from the many changes introduced under Jürgen Klinsmann. “You feel like a new player,” he revealed, declaring himself thrilled with the innovatory approach, especially on the practice ground: “The best part about it is that we’re always working with the ball.“ Like all the players, Andi is hugely impressed with the new performance centre too.

Ottl feels the current coaching staff can take the club a long way, especially with Klinsmann running the show: “He always wants to talk things through with you, he’s totally motivated.“ Assistant boss Martin Vasquez is “always there with help and advice,” the local lad reported, “I think it’s good having specialists for each individual area.“

Original ideas

As Klinsmann earlier predicted, Ottl feels at home with the newly-extended training schedule: “I’m completely comfortable with the eight-hour day.“ Finely-honed preparation, the squad lunch and the off-the-field training opportunities would help each player develop individually, he argued. Klinsmann’s widely-reported ban on mobile telephones was not a problem: “It’s fine, it would just be a distraction otherwise.“ Unavoidable calls could always be made on the centre’s fixed-line phones.

The performance centre is equipped to the highest technological standards in any case. So-called message boards, small screens built into the players’ locker doors, provide Ottl and Co with information about their daily schedules. “The displays help you optimise your preparation for the day,” the 23-year-old explained.

He may not be ready for a full-time role, but I hope he gets enough time to continue to develop. At such a young age, you never know how good he might turn out to be.

Andreas Ottl came through the ranks at Bayern and joined the first team in July 2005. He played eight matches in his first season and even scored the title-clinching goal for Bayern in the 1-1 draw against Kaiserslautern. 24 games followed in the 2006/07 season, but only 19 last term. Ottl is out to change that: "I'm not satisfied with coming from the bench. I will work hard in training and give everything."

I've made a post ( here) on how prices of some players have gone up, and of some players down.

Ottl's price in the market has gone up, from 1.6 million euros, to 2 million euros. So, only a change of 0.4 million Euros.

I was discussing it with Snake and BlackNess, and Snake doesn't agree that Ottl is a nothing special player and we definately don't need him.

His price is just right, and Snake is surprised about that too.

I see that Ottl definitley has some potential quality, otherwise he would have been promoted to the senior side. Plus he's got a good shot from outside the area but all he needs is more confidence and experience in him and he should be fine, I'd rather loan him than sell him. He could prove usefull to us in the future. And I see him on the same line as Rolfes, the only difference is that Rolfes has grown in more confidence since he's a regular at Leverkusen.

I always see him sleepy on the pitch, too slow, not anything special on tackling. All he has is a good shot, but we don't play shoot-on-sight tactics.

Ottl is a player for Karlsruhe-like clubs. In my opinion, he will never make his target, he won't become a starter at FC Bayern.
