Default #2 Willy Sagnol ~ Set for retirement?

Quote:
Bayern Munich defender Willy Sagnol has confirmed he expects to extend his contract with the German champions for a further two seasons.

Sagnol moved to Germany from Monaco in 2000 and has a contract at the Allianz Arena until 2010.

The 29-year-old would be happy to end his playing career with Bayern and aims to have his current deal extended beyond his 35th birthday.

"I will be 33 in 2010 and after 10 years at the club, I don't think I'll choose to leave," Sagnol told TF1.

"So why not extend my contract for two more years?"

Sagnol has refused to rule out the possibility of staying with Bayern in some capacity once his career comes to an end.

However, the France international could also return to first club St Etienne.

Sagnol added: "Joining the club's board after my career is a possibility, but I also love St Etienne."

He is a decent player, so Bayern should sign him for 2/3 years more.

Reaction to Werder Bremen v Bayern

Willy Sagnol: "We created more chances than Bremen, but we were simply unlucky. That's football."

Quote:
Bayern Munich full back Willy Sagnol has admitted that his side are missing midfielder Michael Ballack after losing 3-1 to title rivals Werder Bremen last Saturday.

Ballack left Bayern in order to join Chelsea in the summer, and the Bundesliga champions have since recorded their worst start to a domestic campaign in the last 13 years.

"We have lost four important players with the departures Ballack, Ze Roberto, Jens Jeremies and Bixente Lizarazu. We're missing a bit of experience."

"Of course things were better when he [Ballack] was here. He was a great player, and always capable of scoring."

"This period is difficult for us now, and it will probably stay like that until the winter break," he added.

Sagnol also slammed referee Herbert Fandel for his performance in the game, commenting "Herr Fandel made too many errors, too many for a top match. It was a scandal."

Bayern currently lie fourth in the Bundesliga, 3 points behind Bremen and fellow title aspirants Schalke.

He predered to have more cash at the end of the month, so fuck him.
Bayern players need to get their composure and Magath needs to start playing with the right tactis

A strong game by Sagnol, especially during the second-half.

Bayern Munich defender Willy Sagnol has confirmed he will replace Oliver Khan as the Bundesliga outfit's captain.

Khan's illustrious playing career is nearing an end, with the Germany international set to hang up his gloves at the end of the 2007/08 season.

Sagnol has a contract with Bayern until 2010 and is thought to be keen to end his career at the Allianz Arena.

The 29-year-old will be rewarded for his loyalty by succeeding Kahn as the club's captain.

"I will definitely be Bayern's captain when Oliver Kahn quits," Sagnol told L'Equipe.

"Being captain in a great foreign club is a source of pride because in these traditional clubs, the armband does not go to the player who has the best relationships with the media but to the boss, the one who is really in charge.

"With or without the armband, I am always the same - I talk a lot, even when I upset my team-mates, but I need to do that."

Willy Sagnol can hardly wait for the winter break. The France star had just three weeks off after tasting bitter defeat in the World Cup final, and has since contested some 30 competitive fixtures for Bayern and his country, battling a persistent knee problem along the way. "It's been tough work for me and the team," the 29-year-old conceded in an exclusive fcbayern.de Interview.

Sagnol is not the only World Cup star in Munich looking forward to Christmas, but Willy and his team-mates are still determined to win their last two matches before the holiday. The Reds will then embark on a concerted campaign to retain the Bundesliga trophy in the second half of the season, "because there's no-one in the league capable of beating us when we're fully fit," the charismatic right-back declared.

Interview: Willy Sagnol

fcbayern.de: Willy, you've won the last home match of 2006. What's your take on the first half of the season at the Allianz Arena?

Willy Sagnol: "It's not always been easy, but we knew that before the season. It's always tough after a difficult pre-season period. We've always said our goal up to Christmas was to be there or thereabouts at the top, and it looks like we'll achieve that. And then we're off to our Dubai training camp in January."

fcbayern.de: You've continued to struggle against defensive opponents. Is that because of problems with fitness and sharpness?

Sagnol: "I think it is. A visit to the Allianz Arena is like a Champions League final for most teams. That makes it tough for us. Take Frankfurt as an example: they ran till they dropped against us, but they shipped six goals at home to Bremen, who'd played 90 tough minutes in the Champions League a few days earlier."

fcbayern.de: You had a few decent chances on the break in the second half against Cottbus on Saturday, but poor passing meant they came up to nothing. Why was that?

Sagnol: "We're simply not totally fit, that's obvious. What you see at the moment is genuinely the best we can do."

fcbayern.de: Nevertheless, you're only three points off top spot. That should give your rivals something to think about over Christmas.

Sagnol: "That's right, Bayern Munich are still right in it, in all three competitions. Schalke are out of both cups, Bremen are out of the German Cup. The job now is to win in Mainz whatever it takes, and get through to the next round of the Cup. It'll look pretty good for us after that."

fcbayern.de: How can you be so sure you'll improve after the winter break?

Sagnol: "We've shown it often enough over the last two or three years. There's no-one in the league capable of beating us when we're fully fit. I'm convinced the second half of the campaign will be easier."

fcbayern.de: What's your personal summary of the season so far?

Sagnol: "It's been hard work for me and for the team. I've played about 30 matches since August, each one over the full 90 minutes. Obviously I'm not fully fit any more, but after the winter break and a vacation, we'll all be up and running again."

When Bayern are 100%, are probably a top 5 team in Europe.

Bayern Munich defender Willy Sagnol wants to end his career at the club and has his eye on another Champions League victory.

"I want to stay at Bayern until the end of my career," the 29-year-old France international told Muencher AZ.

"That will be until 2010 (when his contract finishes) or later if my body lets me."

"And also if I achieve my dream, which is to win another Champions League title with Bayern," the former St Etienne and Monaco player added.
