Ribery would be welcome at Bayern.

Sagnol hampered

Willy Sagnol is giving cause for concern, as the France star was restricted to a few laps of the ground the day before and sat out the session on Saturday, following a reaction to an old calf injury. "It's a complicated one," the coach reported, "it's difficult to say when he'll be fit again."

FC Bayern München right-back Willy Sagnol could be out for the season after sustaining a serious knee injury in Milan.

The French defender could be out until the end of the season after rupturing the meniscus in his right knee during the 2-2 Champions League quarter-final draw away to AC Milan.

Immediate surgery

The France international will undergo surgery to repair the damage immediately after the Bayern party returns to Munich on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old, who captained Bayern in the Champions League for the first time in the absence of the suspended Oliver Kahn, faces several weeks on the sidelines but could return for the last couple of matches provided the recovery process goes according to plan.

Default Sagnol: Season Probabaly Over

Bayern Munich left-bacl Willy Sagnol has admitted he fears his season is over following meniscus damage picked up agaisnt Milan.

"The doc told me that the injury seems to be the outer meniscus," Sagnol said. "That means six to seven weeks out, so the season would be over for me.

"But that's football. Worse things happen."

The results of the scan are still awaited, but if the injury is confirmed, Bayern will have been handed a huge blow as they attempt to make the semi-finals of the competition for the first time in six long seasons.

They have an advantage following the 2-2 draw in Milan, though, and will have Oliver Kahn and Mark van Bommel back for the second leg.

Coach Ottmar Hitzfeld, meanwhile, has insisted that Kahn will remain his first-choice goalkeeper despite Rensing's show against Milan yesterday.

"We all know that Kahn is our number one, but I am delighted for Rensing that he fulfilled our expectations," he said. "It is good to know that whenever Kahn is unavailable we have him, and his chance will come soon."

Default Further tests bring gloom for Sagnol

FC Bayern München right-back Willy Sagnol may not be fit for the start of next season after receiving bad news about a knee injury sustained in Milan.

Initial diagnosis
The French international left the field after 68 minutes of Bayern's 2-2 UEFA Champions League quarter-final draw against AC Milan at San Siro following a clash with Kaká, and was initially diagnosed with ligament damage in his right knee and told that he would be out of action for six to eight weeks.

Further tests
Further tests have revealed that he has damaged cartilage as well as ligaments in the knee, and following an operation set to take place in Augsburg tonight, the 30-year-old - who played 23 Bundesliga games and nine more in the UEFA Champions League this season - is likely to be out of action for four months. If so he would miss France's home UEFA EURO 2008™ encounters with Ukraine and Georgia in early June.

Default Injury shock | Four-month lay-off for stricken Sagnol

Tuesday's Champions League showdown in Milan began well for Willy Sagnol, as the Frenchman captained Bayern in Europe's elite competition for the first time, but the evening ended in shock and despair for the star right-back. Willy hobbled from the field on 68 minutes, club doctor Müller-Wohlfahrt initially diagnosing a ruptured meniscus, but a thorough examination in Munich has now revealed the full extent of the injury. The player has damaged both the meniscus and the cartilage in his right knee and will be out of action for at least four months

It means the season is over for Sagnol. "It's a bad loss," Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge commented, as the Bavarians survey a demanding run-in both on the domestic front and in Europe.

Operation in Augsburg

Willy's team-mates expressed equal dismay at the seriousness of the injury, sustained when the right-back twisted the knee in a challenge with Milan and Brazil superstar Kakà. "Losing Willy's experience and quality is a heavy blow for us," Andreas Ottl commented. "Willy's one of our leaders," Philipp Lahm observed. "We'll miss him, He's technically excellent and superb at set plays," Daniel van Buyten added.

Christian Lell, Andreas Görlitz and Hasan Salihamidzic all represent alternatives in Sagnol's position, with one of the trio set for a first stand-in appearance in the weekend clash with Hanover. Meanwhile, Sagnol was set for surgery performed by renowned specialist Dr. Ulrich Boenisch at the Hessingpark Clinic in Augsburg. The surgeon repaired Roque Santa Cruz' cruciate ligament damage three years ago.

Lengthy rehab

Sagnol will be obliged to use crutches for a spell after the op, before commencing a lengthy period of rehab training. "Naturally, he's down at the moment," FCB media director Markus Hörwick reported after a private conversation with the player. But Willy is well-known as a battler, and will surely recapture his former brilliance once the new season gets underway.

Default Sagnol optimistic about next season

The operation on Bayern München's Willy Sagnol was successful and the defender is already optimistic about the future.

"I'll be taking a break for three and a half months", said the French player on Monday while standing on crutches.

The defender was in good spirits and looking forward to the new season just four days after undergoing an operation in Augsburg to repair cartilage damage. "I'll be really ready to play again.

The title says Sagnol must have patience.

We'll still have to wait for a while to see his comeback.

He has returned to training, doing solo running.

He's not yet pain-free.

Hitzfeld doesn't expect to have him available before the middle or end of September.

On a less positive note, no date has been set for the return of Lahm’s fellow full-back Willy Sagnol (convalescence after knee surgery). The France star managed a few laps of the training ground on Wednesday. “He’s a long way off resuming the team sessions,“ Hitzfeld commented.
