Bayern Munich commercial manager Uli Hoeness says Germany striker Lukas Podolski has not done enough in Munich since his arrival in July 2006.

He said having a powerful shot was not enough and that it was too easy for defenders to take the ball from Podolski, who has scored four goals in 22 Bundesliga matches.

'He's been here nearly a year and a half, and he's got to show something in his second year, he's got to prove himself,' Hoeness told Sueddeutsche Zeitung.

'He hasn't done anything yet. If he doesn't make big changes in his attitude soon, he won't make it here.'

Podolski has to earn his place in the team: Bayern general manager
First Published: Sep 26, 2007

Bayern Munich manager Uli Hoeness has insisted that German striker Lukas Podolski, seen here in March 2007, still has to prove himself -- more than a year after joining the Bundesliga giants.
Bayern Munich manager Uli Hoeness insisted on Wednesday that German striker Lukas Podolski still has to prove himself - more than a year after joining the Bundesliga giants.

The 22-year-old joined Bayern in July 2006 from Cologne, but having arrived with an impressive goal-scoring record for his old side, he only scored four goals in 22 games last season.

But Podolski has only just come back to form after suffering a knee injury which has kept him out since April.

"He has been at Bayern for nearly a year and a half and this season he must show what he is worth, but he hasn't proved anything yet," Hoeness told the German daily newspaper Sueddeutschen Zeitung on Wednesday.

"In the next six to eight months to come, he must show us that he is worth his place in the team," said the Bayern boss.

Before his arrival in July 2006, Podolski, voted the best young player at the 2006 World Cup, had scored 24 Bundesliga goals for Cologne, but his place in the Bayern first-team is now blocked by Miroslav Klose and Luca Toni.

Italian World Cup winner Toni was signed from Fiorentina for 11 million euros in the summer, while Klose was brought in from rivals Werder Bremen and between them the pair have already scored nine goals this season.

Hoeness is right.

Podolski has to put up a fight and score goals this season.

Correct statements from Hoeness.

Poldi hasn't done anything yet.

He still has to prove himself.

Vargas, you see..

He played (as a sub) against the weakest Bundesliga side currently (Cottbus) and he couldn't manage to score in our 5-0 win.

He's missing something..

But, don't forget his interview.

He clearly said he's not a targetman so we can't expect a lot goals from him.

But, he has to score, sometimes.

Though, he's not being supplied with balls a lot eh..

Default Podolski: Give me a chance

Bayern Munich striker Lukas Podolski has hit back at recent criticism by claiming he has not been given a chance to prove what he can do.

Club manager Uli Hoeneß claimed last week that Podolski had achieved nothing so far at Bayern, and would have to start delivering the goods. However the young international striker has moved to counter these claims.

“I have never had the chance to play seven, eight, or nine games in a row. If my performances were not good enough after a run of games, then the criticism would be justified” the 22 year old told the ‘Münchener Tageszeitung’.

The former Cologne forward also sees no reason to change his game. “I’ve been playing a number of years now, and have had success” he explained.

He finds himself in a difficult situation in Munich at the moment with Luca Toni and Miroslav Klose firmly established as the first choice strike pairing. Toni has hit 5 goals, while Klose has bagged 8 so far this season.

“There is no reason for the trainer to change things at the moment because the front two are scoring” Poldi mused.

Podolski’s form for the national team is in stark contrast to that at his club side. For Bayer, he has only found the back of the net four times in 26 appearances. However, he has scored 23 times in 40 games for the ‘Nationalelf’.

Default Werder Bremen reiterate interest in Podolski

Werder Bremen reiterated their ongoing interest in Germany striker Lukas Podolski who is yet to make an impact at Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich.

“We had our reasons when we expressed our interest in Podolski in summer. You could see with Miro Klose how well players develop at our club,” Bremen general manager Klaus Allofs told Sunday paper Bild am Sonntag.

Bremen have long been interested in Podolski, but the player chose Munich last year in a move from Cologne and last summer ruled out a transfer to Bremen as well.

Allofs conceded that a deal is only possible if Podolski agrees to such a move.

Podolski is yet to shine in Munich and the 22-year-old was boldly told by Munich general manager Uli Hoeness a few days ago that he must finally change his attitude and deliver.

Podolski is not a first-choice forward as coach Ottmar Hitzfeld fields Klose (who came to Munich from Bremen in summer) and Luca Toni.

But Hitzfeld also said that players like Podolski are needed in Munich because “you don’t win the title with 11 players alone.”

In a recent interview Podolski was questioned "Did you ever consider moving to Bremen in an exchange for Miro Klose?", and he answered: "There were several clubs who showed interest, not just Bremen. Of course you think about it for a moment, but this was never an issue with me, to leave Bayern after just one year. I saw that I fit into this team, that we will field a great team this season - why should I give up and leave the team?"

So, this clearly tells enough. Bremen can forget him.

Podolski could have joined them immediately from Koln, but he choose us instead.
He could have joined them aswell this summer, he rejected them again.

Bremen wish they got him. And they still want him.

But, first off, Bayern won't sell him, and second, Podolski will personally reject it.

I know, Hoeness warned him recently that he hasn't proved himself at Bayern yet.

But, Podolski is Germany's 2nd best striker without a single doubt.

He's the future, and Bayern can't loose him.

He'll find his form back.

Podolski is a fighter.

We can't loose him, and we will not loose him.

Won't happen.

Default Podolski out for Belenenses clash!

Bayern Munich have been hit with the news that they will have to do without Lukas Podolski for their trip to face Portuguese side Belenenses in the Uefa Cup on Thursday.

The German international is suffering from a bout of flu, and trainer Ottmar Hitzfeld had announced that “his selection is out of the question.”

It remains unclear whether the 22-year-old will be well enough to face Nürnberg on Sunday.

The news comes as an added blow, due to the fact that Bayern will also be without Miroslav Klose and captain Oliver Kahn.

Ottmar Hitzfeld also has injuries worries over Mark van Bommel and Bastian Schweinsteiger ahead of the return leg of the Uefa Cup tie.

However, the ‘General’ will accept no excuses.

“We cannot allow any slip ups and absolutely must qualify for the group stages” he demanded.

Default Rummenigge: Podolski will not be going anywhere!

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge insists out-of favour striker Lukas Podolski will not be leaving the club.

Werder Bremen sport director Klaus Allofs confirmed earlier this week that he was still interested in signing the German international, having had an approach in the summer rebuffed by Bayern.

But Rummenigge says the Bundesliga leaders will not be letting Podolski go during the January transfer window.

“Even if Bremen make another effort to sign him - and nobody has officially contacted us so far - then it will all be in vain,” he told TZ newspaper.

“The player will not be going anywhere in the winter break.

“We want him to be happy here, to achieve his sporting goals and to play football.”

Podolski is currently enduring a difficult second season at Bayern, spending most of his time on the bench, with coach Ottmar Hitzfeld sticking with his in-form strike duo of Luca Toni and Miroslav Klose.

Not quite happy with those declarations.

What does "The player will not be going anywhere in the winter break" mean?

The board is thinking of selling him in the summer than?

If no, why leaving it out.

That leaves room for speculation.

And I don't like that!

sucks, I really wanted him to prove himself in this game this was a chance for him, miro and luca will almost always come before him so when they're not fit he needs to take his chance! ( until he starts scoring )

Yes, indeed. It sucks.

Just when he has the chance, something stops him.
