Default Oliver Kahn - Retired, legendary Bayern goalkeeper

Quote:
BERLIN, Aug 11 (Reuters) - Bayern Munich goalkeeper Oliver Kahn made his 500th Bundesliga appearance in Friday's season opener against Borussia Dortmund.

Kahn, 37, played his first Bundesliga game in 1987 for Karlsruhe and it was an unpromising start, as his side lost 4-0 to Cologne.
http://sports.yahoo.com/sow/news?slu...ters&type=lgns

A great way to make his 500 appearance in the Bundesliga. His team won with a clean sheet.

Some say this will be Kahn's last year, but I think he'll only retire after 2008, because his contract ends in 2008.

What do you guys think ?

I hope Kahn only retires at 2008, for 2 reasons:
- Because I want to see him play for most years possilble;
- Because Rensing will be the man to replace Kahn and he doesn't have enough experience.

He's been the greatest for years, there's no doubt. I'll miss him a lot when he's gone, not that many players from the 80s left.

Did you ever see Sepp Meier playing (former german goalkeeper) ?
I was wondering who was the best german goalkeeper of all time...

Nope, my knowledge of German keepers beyond Kahn is limited, the only one I really remember is Kopke, who was dire in 98, when Kahn should really have been the number one but was excellent in 1996...Ilgner I've seen too though I don't really remember him...he'd have to be in there too I suppose. Schumacher was supposed to have been good too wasn't he?

Yes, Schumacher was good, so as Ilgner and Kopke. I spoke about Sepp Meier because he is considered one of the best goalkeepers of all time, in the league of the Russian Yaschin.

Now Yashin I have seen and he certainly deserves to be up there...Kahn I would say is in the top 3 goalkeepers of my life time, probably number one or two...If you just took the 5 years say between 1999 and 2004...he was so powerful in the whole 18 yard box, knew how to out-psyche any striker, such a brilliant shot-stopper, perfect on crosses...top class captain too, bossed the entire team about.

He was the first ever goalkeeper to win the Golden Ball in a World Cup.

most german fans consider Sepp Maier the best German keeper and Bayern keeper ever. I dont know though since i never saw him play.

Too me Kahn is probably the best keeper ive ever seen.

Twat? Now you're talking like your idol!

No I don't like him. If Rooney did half the stuff Kahn did on a ptich people would be calling for him to be locked up...

Here are a few examples...

Rooney is a Hooligan:

I've never seen Oliver Kahn do this:

You're missing the point...

Nevermind the fact that Rooney's red card for that was a joke, but my point is that Rooney GETS SENT OFF Kahn NEVER got punished for all those instances, not even after the matches etc...
