Default Cambridge 4 - 2 Everton

SKYsports:

Quote:
Conference outfit Cambridge United secured a dramatic 4-2 win over Everton in a pre-season friendly.

Despite a first-half fightback by David Moyes' men, the Merseysiders appeared to run out of steam after the break which allowed The U's to build an unassailable lead.

It was Gary Brabin's side who broke the deadlock, Andrew Parkinson firing past former Cambridge player John Ruddy on the half-volley with just 30 seconds on the clock.

Everton, however, seized the lead courtesy of Poland Under 21 international Lukas Jutkiewicz, first equalising by slotting beyond Danny Potter after some fine work down the left, before heading home from six yards.

The pace of the game dropped, with neither side creating any clear-cut openings until Parkinson secured his own brace after 62 minutes, looping the ball over Ruddy's head from the edge of the area.

The addition of Mikel Arteta prompted cheers from the travelling support, but their joy was short-lived as Robbie Wilmott collected a loose ball and fired across Ruddy to restore Cambridge's advantage with just over 15 minutes remaining.

The home side sealed the win with ten minutes remaining, some poor defending from the Premier League side allowing Mark Beesley to volley home to the dismay of the collection of Toffees fans.

Team was:

----------------------------------Ruddy----------
Irving----------------Jagielka------------Lescott-----------Valente(Molyneux)
Van Der Meyde(Agard)---Neville-----Rodwell-------------O'Kane(Sinnot)
--------------------Jutkiewicz(Baxter)--Johnson------------------------------

Shame we got beat, but it's just a pre-season game and we were missing most of our best players, out of that entire team it is only Lescott who I expect to be playing in the same position today as they would in the first game of the season.
Arteta also got a few minutes which is good. Neville, Lescott and Jagielka have played 90 mins in both games now so that will help their fitness. Rodwell has figured twice now in the DM role and Van Der Medye again featured heavily, setting a goal.
