Default Due to Depart

Everton FC:

Quote:
David Moyes has confirmed Stefan Wessels and Thomas Gravesen will be leaving Goodison this summer.

The German goalkeeper was signed from Cologne last summer on a one season contract and has acted as cover for first choice keeper Tim Howard this term.

He has made seven appearances in an Everton shirt this term, including two Premier League starts when Howard was injured.

Gravesen has endured a campaign curtailed by injury problems, starting three games and making eight appearances from the bench - netting one of the successful penalties in the shoot-out defeat to Fiorentina in the Uefa Cup.

Moyes said: "I would like to thank Stefan Wessels who, after today, will be leaving us. His level of professionalism has been a credit to him and he has been a great man to have around the club.

"Thomas Gravesen will also depart following the completion of his season-long loan. He deserves thanks for both his spells here and we wish him well for the future."

Wessels was a decent backup keeper for us, but was a bit shaky but has to be thanked for the year he has spent with us.

Tommy has been a tremendous servant to the club. If not overrated recently, he has been with us for 6 seasons now I think. A true character in the club and hugely popular with the fans. To be honest with injuries it looks like he hasnt got long left, but hopefully we'll still get to see him from time to time in another country. Who would had thought when he joined that he would be a catalyst for a champions league finish and become a Real Madrid player.

Why didn't he play Gravesen more? Carsley/Gravesen was a huge success for some years ago. If I'm not too wrong they did't get a game together this season.

Bad enough playing one player who's past his best and was never very good to begin with. No need to play two of them in the key area of central midfield.

He had a good 6 months and left for Real Madrid.

Lee Carsley, past his best? Laughable. If you took the time to watch how he plays you would realise how good of a footballer he actually is.
