Default McFadden signs for Birmingham

Skysports.com understands Everton have accepted Birmingham's improved £5.5million bid for James McFadden.

Birmingham boss Alex McLeish has placed the talented forward at the top of his January wish-list and has already seen a number of bids for the player spurned by Everton counterpart David Moyes.

Having worked with McFadden during his time as Scotland boss, McLeish is convinced the former Motherwell man can fire Blues to safety and is prepared to pay the price to fend off fellow suitors Rangers and Celtic.

McFadden is not short of admirers on either side of the border but it is Birmingham who are leading the way for his signature.

The player is expected at St Andrews on Thursday to meet with McLeish and discuss personal terms.

Great deal if true.

Thats a great sale from Moyes, although from what ive heard it will be for slightly less than the £5.7m they originally wanted.

He wont be especially missed at Goodison, you have good players, better players. And a bit of money to replace him as well. I heard a report yous are chasing a lad from Barnsley called Brian Howard?

Heard them rumours too at the start of the window. The price I think that was in the papers was around £3million though and I can't see us paying that.

James McFadden has completed his move to Birmingham City.

The two clubs agreed a fee on Wednesday evening and McFadden has now passed a medical and agreed personal terms.

Birmingham will pay £5million up front for the forward, with the fee potentially rising to £6million based on appearances. McFadden has signed a three-year deal which includes an additional two-year option.

The Scottish international, 24, put pen to paper at St Andrews ahead of Friday's midday deadline and could feature for his new side against Chelsea on Saturday.

Birmingham boss Alex McLeish was keen to capture the player, who enjoyed success for Scotland this season while McLeish was in charge of the national side.

Indeed, the Midlands outfit had two bids rejected by Everton before a deal was agreed.

McFadden was signed for the Toffees by David Moyes from Motherwell on September 1, 2003 for £1.25m.

He has made 137 appearances for the Blues during more than four years at Goodison, netting 18 goals.

Good luck to him. Think he'll perform better for them with regular games, would be a really good player if he had pace and knew when to pass.
