Thomas Gravesen has returned to former club Everton from Celtic after the clubs agreed on a one-season loan deal for the Danish midfielder...
Former Real Madrid midfielder Thomas Gravesen is set to return to his old stomping ground of Goodison Park after signing a one year loan deal at Everton.
The 31 year old joined Celtic at the beginning of last season but failed to make an impact at the Bhoys, and has now moved back to the club where he made his name.
Gravesen arrived at Everton in 2000 after a spell with Hamburger SV and made a name for himself as an uncompromising midfielder.
After five largely successful years at Goodison, he joined Real Madrid in January 2005, six months before his contract at Everton was set to expire.
His Bernabeu career started well but eventually faded out, particularly after Fabio Capello took over at the club in summer 2006.
Thus it was no surprise when he was sold on, but Celtic surprised many by landing the player.
Despite his undoubted pedigree, he had a largely unproductive time at Parkhead, losing favour with coach Gordon Strachan.
He had yet to start any competitive match for Celtic so far this season before moving back to Everton, where he will hope to reignite his career.
Gravesen told EvertonTV of his delight to be back in Liverpool.
He said, "I have always said I would never want to come back to any other club in England other than Everton - I am an Everton player. In my five years here we improved all the way and we ended on a high and that is what I want to achieve again.
"This is a great feeling. I have been privileged to wear this shirt before but over the last few years Everton has improved a lot. Some fantastic players have come into the squad now and I am definitely pleased to be here, that is for sure.
"It is always difficult to come back to a place but I hope it goes well. I will definitely do my part and for me, it is very important for me to prove after being given another chance in the blue shirt."
Gravesen has been capped 66 times for Denmark.
