Default Everton issue Fernandes Statement

New developments on Fernandes' transfer. He was called for the CL game today but he didn't show up in the training ground.

According to the media, he is negociating his move to Everton. He has agreed a 5-year contract, earning 1m € a month. The only detail that is stalling this deal, is the fact that Everton want to pay the 9m € of his buy out clause on monthly installments and Benfica want 9m straight.

Default Fernandes to sign in next 24 hours

Manuel Fernandes to sign in time for Reading trip - News - Everton FC - Liverpool Echo.co.uk

Quote:
MANUEL FERNANDES could be in Everton’s squad for Saturday’s visit to Reading.

The Portuguese midfielder was expected on Merseyside for a medical today, after the complicated financial arrangements surrounding his transfer from Benfica were finally resolved.

Benfica accepted a £6m fee for their 50 per cent part-ownership of the player, while the investment bank which owned the other half has also agreed terms.

Fernandes will now undergo a medical examination and, if successful, will sign a five year deal with the Blues.

Boss David Moyes wants greater competition for places at Goodison, and pointed out that the players who have forged Everton’s hundred per cent start to the season have even demanded it.

“I need competition to keep those players on their toes,” he explained. “I’ve got to say that the players have asked for the competition and I’m hoping to make it even stronger again if I can.”

Moyes is also hoping that his interest in Middlesbrough striker Yakubu can be turned into a concrete move after Boro completed the signing of Spurs striker Mido for £6.8m.

Looking good. Missed out on tickets to the Reading game, wil have to wait untill Blackburn the next week to see him in a royal blue shirt.. (hopefully)

Manuel Fernandes is expected to seal his return to Everton within the next 24 hours.

The Portuguese midfielder spent the second half of last season on loan at Goodison Park after a spell at Premier League rivals Portsmouth.

He is now close to a permanent move from Benfica, with Everton boss David Moyes confirming the deal is in place.

"Manuel had the first part of his medical yesterday and that will be completed today," said Moyes.

"I would then expect him to become an Everton player within the next 24 hours."

Fernandes is unlikely to be available for Saturday's game at Reading, but is expected to have a major impact this season.

Hit ground running

Moyes added: "Manuel was with us on loan last season, so he knows all about us and we hope he will be able to hit the ground running when he arrives.

"He knows about us and what we do, he will give us a different option. We are playing with Lee Carsley and Phil Neville just now in the centre of midfield and he will give us more competition there.

"But he is a different type of player, with a bit more craft. At 21 he was a big player in the European Under 21 Championships for Portugal and we are delighted to have him."

Everton, it is believed, are only buying 50% of the player from Benfica, with third party companies owning the rest, and the contract has been constructed in much the same way as the ones that allowed Liverpool and Manchester United to acquire Javier Mascherano and Carlos Tevez

Can't wait to see him playing for us again.

David Moyes has revealed he expects midfielder Manuel Fernandes to become an Everton player.

Fernandes impressed during a six-month loan spell with the Blues last term. He returned to Benfica at the end of the campaign but Moyes has confirmed the 21-year-old is on the verge of returning to Goodison as part of a permanent deal.

Moyes said: "He had the first part of his medical yeasterday afternoon, we are hoping that he completes the second part today and we can get the agreement done as soon as we possibly can. It might be that we can get it done for tomorrow, I am not sure.

"Manuel was with us on loan last season, so he knows all about us and we hope he will be able to hit the ground running when he arrives.

"He knows about us and what we do, he will give us a different option. We are playing with Lee Carsley and Phil Neville just now in the centre of midfield and he will give us more competition there.

If Moyes is speaking about him like this on the official site it sounds pretty much a done deal. Great to see brilliance like this next year:

According to the portuguese press, the fact that Fernandes' rights were owned by benfica and a 3rd party, made the premiership cancel the deal as they have some new rule regarding players who's rights are owned by more than 1 club/person. Otherwise, Fernades would have joined you..

That's a possiblity, but I would had thought some sort of official announcement by Everton would had been made, or the Premier League, rather than letting the fans' find out this way. To be honest it stinks of Everton's incapable board.

Chin up blues, We are ran by clowns, we missed out on Manuel, but more importantly than anything it seems Mikel Arteta will be staying with us for many years to come. We still have Moyes who I now trust 100%. This is a blow, but just think how much more it would be if we didnt have this lad, by far the superior to Fernandes.

Everton Football Club feels it should clarify the situation with regards to Manuel Fernandes.
We worked hard all last week on what was a very difficult and complex three-party agreement.
Everton staff worked through the night on Thursday, finally reaching agreement with the English footballing authorities on Friday afternoon.
A similar night's work on Friday left us satisfied that we had both addressed and agreed all issues with the other involved parties.
However, on Saturday we were informed that another club had come in with a rival bid and despite sustained efforts over the remainder of the weekend the player today joined Valencia."

Excuses Excuses. I highly doubt Everton were unaware of Valencia's interest, and what was he doing at the game on Saturday if they found out that morning that Valancia were set to make a bid, should have had him signed on friday night when the paperworkl was done. You can't afford to take your time in the transfer market, would had thought the club would had learnt that from Sissoko.
