Default Players pay tribute to Rhys Jones

Quote:

The Everton players have visited the scene of Rhys Jones’ murder.

The entire Blues first-team squad boarded the team bus at Bellefield on Monday morning and made the short journey to Croxteth Park to pay their respects to the 11-year old football-mad youngster who was killed last week.

Captain Phil Neville laid a specially commissioned wreath and other members of the squad left their own tributes.

Rhys’ favourite players, Andrew Johnson, Mikel Arteta and Joseph Yoyo placed their match shirts amongst the hundreds of floral displays that already adorn the edge of the car park where the tragedy occurred, whilst Leon Oman and Tim Cahill left pairs of football boots.

After leaving their special tributes, the players stood for a while in silence before reboarding the team bus to head back to the training ground.

Phil Neville and Alan Stubbs both addressed the massed media that have been a permanent fixture in the area since Rhys was murdered and once again appealed for anyone with any information at all to come forward and inform the police.

"We are here today to pay our respects and appeal to anyone to come out and give information about the person who did this terrible thing," said Phil.

"Rhys was an 11-year-old lad and massive Evertonian. We just hope this thing never happens again."

And Stubbs added: "It has affected everyone, it has affected the whole city. What's happened is a tragic, tragic event.

"Anyone with any information to help the police, please come forward."

A video report of the players' visit is on evertonTV now.

If you have information, please contact Merseyside Police on 0151 777 8722. You can also contact by texting the word CRIME followed by your message to 61051, or e-mail your information to murder@merseyside.police.uk.

If you prefer, you can provide information anonymously by contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

His death hasn't really been mentioned anywhere on here.

RIP

fucking sickening. makes you wonder what the fuck is going on with the world when an 11 year old lad is the victim of a crime like this. as a father myself, it scares the shit out of me to think that the area where i live isnt much different to the area where this happened, in fact its only 5 minutes down the east lancs.

Everton did him proud there, fair play to them.
