Everton alerted as Atletico Madrid ponder Ibanez sale
Quote:
Everton have been alerted to the availability of Atletico Madrid defender Pablo Ibanez.
The Spain international has been long admired by Everton boss Dave Moyes and is now being made available by Atletico, says AS, for the right price.
Ibanez has had an indifferent season at the Vicente Calderon following last year's World Cup and is no longer a first-choice for coach Javier Aguirre.
|
He's had a poor season but he's a quality player, Spain starter at CB...
if Everton get him it'll be a pretty big coup, him, Yobo & Lescott all competing for positions at CB (Lescott can play LB) would make a fantastic defence.

If this is the Pablo I'm thinking of, he'd be a great buy for Everton.
They are going to be very strong next season - although I think they need just one match winner who can unlock defences to take them to the next level.

They need upgrades on the likes of Carsley, McFadden & Osman in midfield and Valente in defence (so Lescott can play CB)i reckon. Sidwell would have been excellent for them, and i think Jagielka would be a very good signing if they can get him for £3m-ish.
Ibanez is a decent player, will make it decent competition for places at the back.

Pablo Ibanez played for Spain under World Cup so he will be a good signing.Experienced defender.

Haven't really saw him play before but it seems alot of people rate him. Can he play other positions such as Rb or Lb?
We have a very small squad, and can't really afford to lose many players especially with European football to play, to be honest if this deal does go through it would spell the end of Gary Naysmith, who we could cash in on sending him back north, and there is alot of interest in Beattie.
Would be great to get him and Jagielka, but we still need to strengthen in big areas, as said before, we don't really have a strike partner for AJ, I think Vaughan could step up this year but it would be expecting too much of someone so young to be able to handle both domestic and European football week in week out.
There are still hopes we can keep hold of Fernandes, with another season long loan, and with that we would still need wingers, unless Van der Meyde finally gets fit (stranger things have happened).

He's not very versatile, pretty much just CB.

So if it's true looks like Moyes is looking at a defence looking something like..
Lescott--Pablo--Yobo--Neville

Pablo will of course reinforce Everton. Real Madrid were interested in him in preseason and he is a tall and strong CB that has a lot of experience - also on the nationalteam.
