Spain always chokes for whatever reason when it comes to big tourneys. They have the talent but their coaching is average....I don't understand why they don't go after someone credible like capello.

Torres has been on fire, he needs to be their leader.

I chose Spain and Greece but I could have vary easily chosen Sweden. Dog fight for second place. I think it will come to how each team does against Russia and I think that Greece matches up better against them than Sweden.

I think this group has the most potential for surprises...

group C is just group of death, i mean 3 traditional powerhouses including the two world cup finalists and 1 really good team (Romania)

let me sum it up here..

you got Greece... who are the european champions and qualified easily.
you got Spain a traditional team who have a strong team with plaeyrs like Fabregas and Torres puyol and many others..
Sweden - have one of europes top players in Zlatan ibra and these guys have great tradition in tournaments always being a tough prospect
Russia- the sleeper... these guys may be written off by most but lets not forget they are coached by GUS HIDDINK... this guy pulled wonders with Holland in 98, Korea in 02, and Australia in 06.

Is Hiddink THAT much better than Rehhagel?

Order of play for group C:
Greece vs. Sweden
Spain vs. Russia
Sweden vs. Spain
Greece vs. Russia
Greece vs. Spain
Sweden vs. Russia

Greece vs. Sweden on the first match day is absolutely crucial for both teams assuming that this group is going to be Spain followed by a race for second, which I don't actually think it will be. I think this group will be extremely close and could easily see teams tied on points.

hiddink's record speaks for itself, although certainly rehagel is also a great manager.

but I agree, this group will most likely be a close affair, teams finishing level on points is a likely outcome.

agree with Doc-Bhoy.. Spain and Russia.
Spain has a awesome team with players like Fabergas, Serio Ramos, Raul, Torres and and and.
And Russia has a very good coach..of course a coach from Holland(there are the best one )

Who do Spain pick for the central midfield? There are loads of players who deserve a shot.Fabregas Xavi Xabi Iniesta Albelda are the top ones.Joaquin and Silva for the wings.Although It wouldnt surprise me if its a 4-3-1-2 formation with Iniesta Fab Xavi in the midfield with Silva playing a bit further ahead and Torres and Villa up top.Very tough decision.

Russia have some great players.Left winger (whose named eludes me at the moment ) is 23 years of age and is amazing to watch for CSKA.They play some tough good football and know how to go forward.Always will be a threat.

If they can get a result on Spain on the first matchday they are through imo.

Was certain you were talking about Marat Izmailov, but he moved to Sporting in the summer. Russia will miss Arshavin, their captain, for the first 2 games, through suspension, although they've got a few other good talents and a world class coach.

Spain's quality is usually enough to get them through to the knockouts and I wouldn't expect to see any different happening this time.

For Sweden, they need more Zlatan performances like the one against Denmark, because without him on form, they don't have a lot going for them. We've yet to see a run of form from him at international level and that has to change for Sweden and Zlatan's good. The incredible performances at club level that has led to him being counted among the best in football gives promise though, so Sweden could do very well, but they could not. They're a coin toss right now.

Greece, I do not back. The win last time out will make others sit up a little more when facing the Greeks, and tbh, the talent pool looked better for Greece last time out.

The safe bet is Spain and Russia, imo. Backing Sweden is like calling heads in the air; 50-50 chance of them doing something special.
