PFA Awards (now with winners on page 4)
Quote:
UNITED TRIO TOP AWARDS SHORTLIST
Barclays Premiership leaders Manchester United dominate the nominations for the Professional Footballers' Association Player of the Year award, with man of the moment Cristiano Ronaldo, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes all making the six-man shortlist.
Chelsea striker Didier Drogba, Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas and Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, the 2006 winner, complete the contenders for the prestigious award, which will be presented on April 22.
Portuguese winger Ronaldo, 22, and Fabregas, 19, are also in the hunt for the PFA's Young Player of the Year award.
Manchester United and England forward Wayne Rooney, 21, will be looking for a hat-trick, having won the accolade in both 2005 and 2006.
Reading striker Kevin Doyle, 23, Tottenham winger Aaron Lennon, 19, and 18-year-old defender Micah Richards, of Manchester City, who won his first England caps this season, are the other nominees.
With voting among the players themselves now finished, the winners in each category will be revealed at the end of a gala dinner in London on Sunday.
The PFA Fans' Player of the Year, which is polled each month across the season, will also be announced.
Football supporters will, meanwhile, get their chance to take part in a public 'Guess The Winners' vote.
Fans can log on to the PFA website, the Sky Sports website and also via the interactive services on their Sky television channels.
The voting will end at midnight on April 20. Two prizes will be provided for fans who have taken part, with a signed framed shirt of the Players' Player and the Young Player given to the randomly selected entries.
The winners of the fans' public vote will be announced on Tuesday April 24.

Ronaldo should win both IMO. Fabregas rather than Essien (or even Lampard) on the shortlist for the main award is a joke though. I'd love to see Scholesy or Giggs win the main prize but Ronaldo has definitely stolen the show at OT so I can only see Drobga challenging Ronaldo for the award.
If the votes had been cast more recently Ronaldo would walk it considering Drogba has only scored once in his last ten games (compared to Ronaldo's 5 goals and 7 assists in his last 10 games) but when most players voted things between the two would have been much closer. I wouldn't like to guess who has won.
EDIT: I also don't think Gerrard deserves to be on the list either.

I hope Ronaldo wins both (it would be a complete joke if he doesn't at least win 1).
But at the end of the day I'd rather United win trophies than Ronaldo win Player of the Year awards....

How Fabregas and Gerrard are in it is a fucking joke, why arnt players like Benni Mccarthy in it, its always the top 4 which dominate. Also agree about Essien been Chelseas 2nd best player.

Carragher deserves to be there more than Gerrard IMO.
1. Cristiano Ronaldo
2. Didier Drogba
3. Paul Scholes
Kevin Doyle one of the nominees? He's done nothing for months. And where the hell is Oba Martins?
1. Micah Richards
2. Aaron Lennon
3. Cesc Fabregas

Berbatov has been excellent as well, looks more impressive every time I watch him. Ronaldo will win it I assume. I can never get bothered about these individual awards though.

Nope but then neither is Cech.
Foster deserves to be on the young player shortlist certainly.

Shortlist is a bit of a joke.
Gerrard and Fabregas really shouldn't be on it whereas Essien and Carragher defiantely should.

Gerrard nominated for Player of the Season? he hasnt even been Liverpool's player of the season! i hate seeing the media darlings get the nominations.
Ronaldo is obviously, and rightly, gonna win both awards. No one else comes close, although Drogba should be second in the main award, with Scholes in 3rd.

fabregas shouldn't be in there????? why the hell not? being Arsenal's best and most important player consistently all season at the age of 19? leading the league with the most assists? if fabregas hadn't been around this season Arsenal would have been mid table... he deserves to be there.
