Post English Talent

I think that there are many talented young players in the EPL at the moment; despite all the debates about 'foreign influx' and 'grass-roots' trouble, IMO there are many exciting, and Technical, players out there. Here are a few that I have high hopes for. Please read and repond

Theo Walcott - Perhaps an obvious choice, but you cannot disagree with his potential. Lightening pace, as he has proven, is not his only weapon. This statement has become a bit cliche, but he definately has the potential to be the next Henry.

Scott Carson - Many have critisised him following his England errors, but he's one of the many reasons for Villa's revival. A great shot stopper, Carson has been a consitent EPL player for several seasons, has earned England recognition and all before his 23rd birthday.

Ashley Young - A tricky player, with pace, technique and dribbling ability to spare. He has troubled many defenders this season, which was rewarded with and England call up, to which he didn't disappoint. Could be a long term answer to the England wing.

Gabriel Agbonlahor - Pace, Pace and more Pace. He's arguably the quickest in the EPL and troubles any defender with his cunning and positional play. He's notched up a decent amount of goals already. All he can do is improve, which will terrify many CBs for sure.

David Bentley - Not my cup of tea, but his impact for Blackburn has been impressive. He walked into a strong starting line up and has staked a claim to remain there for a long while. Has the class and the nouse to succeed.

Scott Sinclair - I like this player. I watched a lot of him in the championship, and he just has a quality style of play. Pace and trickery won't upset Chelsea fans either.

Cameron Jerome - A powerful player with speed and aerial ability. He knows where the goal is, that's for sure. Reminds me of George Weah. A lot of potential.

Giles Barnes - Hasn't shown the EPL what he can do due to injury, but he does have technical ability. A fast and clever player, Barnes has often been Derby's soul creative player.

Micah Richards - Although he's already established, I think that there's more to come from Micah. He has power and strength in abundence, Speed in abundence and can jump higher than any player i've ever seen.

Nedum Onuoha - Impressed me for the U-21s despite racial chants from the idiots in the crowd. Has lightening speed and a good positional sence. Not too dissimilar for Richards.

Michael Johnson - Showed up his team-mates with several moments of inspiration this season. Has class and technique. Has the potential to be the new Gascoigne.

Ishmael Miller - A powerful striker. He has lot's of speed and lot's of goal scoring ability. A fine athlete, with a bright future.

James Milner - An established player and still so young. Has great feet, touch, skill and brains. A good example of the famous Leeds United academy winger.

Leroy Lita - Threatening to any side on his day. Still young enough to improve and develop into an Ian Wright style striker.

Tom Huddlestone - Comfortable on the ball and an incisive passer. Potentially an England regular in the holding role.

Aaron Lennon - Although he's well established, I still get excited when he plays well. A definate England future for Lennon. We all know what he can do, and yet he can always surprise the oppostion.

Mark Noble - Creative and passionate. Noble has technical ability, can score from midfield and can inspire those around him. A good prospect.

Dean Ashton - English Centre Forward in every sense of the word. Despite looking over 30 he's only 23 and could become an Alan Shearer or Teddy Sherringham style player. He's big, strong and scores freely. Touch and vision are also prominent in his game.

BTW look out for Jermaine Beckford. Fast and free scoring. One to watch.

Look at his goal (while on-loan at Scunthorpe) on youtube and see what he can do.

Good thread mate.

Leroy Lita i dont think will ever be England class. I actually think both Doyle & Kitson are simply better strikers than him for Reading alone. He is also a bit of a tearaway with a pretty shoddy attitude to the game by all accounts, i cant see him being an England player.

James Milner is another i cant see getting a look in. He is way behind the likes of SWP, Lennon, Beckham, J Cole, Young & Bentley for wide areas. Tbh i have never been a fan of Milner, i think he is way too hit and miss and for a wide player his goals/assists record is shambolic. There have been many more talented players than him who havent been able to get into the England side.

Ishmael Miller....do you think he will get a chance at City under Eriksson? All the talk is of City going after Crouch & other strikers, i think Miller will end up in the Championship. He is doing well at Albion but he is raw, is he better than Defoe or Andy Johnson?? Same goes for Cameron Jerome actually....

Few others of note:

Leighton Baines- should be competing with Bridge for second LB spot imo. Stephen Warnock is also in this category, they are hardly youngsters (23 & 25 i think but they are talented players)

Dave Nugent- went off the rails since going to Pompey....still a promising striker.

Adam Johnson. Exciting winger, can play left or right....done well at watford on loan, now back at Boro....

i saw that Jermaine Beckford goal last season....great finish and skill. havent seen too much else of him tho so i cant comment.

Giles Barnes, if he can get fit, that kid is the closet I've seen to a proper English talent. Not on Rooney level obviously, we won't ever have another Rooney.

James Vaughan is a talent too. A genuine finisher with good movement and plenty of pace....shame he is made of glass though.

13 goals so far this season. He's got pace, skill, predatory instinct and a good footballing brain. I don't want o sound too biased, but he is very very good.

BTW I watched liverpool academy the other day...I like the look of David Amoo.

Good post and I agree with a lot you say. But the problems are mental for England. I think our players have become seduced by wealth and fame and football is a secondary pastime. We have only had 2 managers since Ramsey who actually got the players to show some real passion and desire. These were Bobby Robson and Terry Venables.

Well said. England has the talent, but just not the mentality to process it.

The Academy should help nurture English talent. When you look at the success other nations have had from setting up national football academies it is pathetic it has taken this long for us to follow suit.

Danny Welbeck, Danny Sturridge, Rhys Murphy (had a troubled season following injury), Jack Wilshire, Jonjo Shelvey, John Bostock, and Emmanuel Frimpong.

We have got alot of talent. There just not playing regular football or playing for the big clubs.

I tip Harry Forrester for big things 16 year old at Aston Villa.

No one mentioned Jo Hart - Man City goalie.

Yes, but of the ones you list these are the few I think will be good enough for a top side or the English national team:

And there are perhaps another 5 more that I've seen/heard of that are going to be as good or better in the next 3 years. It's OK, but not that good.
