i dont know too much about Capello apart from his record, could you please give a bit more detail (eg his morals that u dont like....., his weaknesses....)

Sam Allardyce and Alan Curbishley have been mentioned before but are they still available?

Allardyce manages Newcastle, Curbishley manages West Ham. Neither are good enough.

Allardyce has ruled himself out.

Curbishley isn't being touted about by the media, and I'd be damn pissed off if he got it.

If England dont get a foreign manager I'd be disappointed tbh, although I'd be curious to see how Coppell or Redknapp do. Both play good football and have improved the teams they've managed immensely, whether they're international managers though is a different question...

Aidy Boothroyd

Would love it if we did appoint Jose.

Please no to Stuart Pearce. He has the passion but not the tactical know how yet.

Go the foreign option again

In the past Jose has indicated he would only coach Portugal.

They showed an interview on TV earlier in which he was asked (a while ago while he was managing Chelsea last year) if he would ever consider taking the England manager's job and his response was:

"Never say never" etc...

It's unlikely, but not impossible.

I can't see Hiddink leaving Russia before the tournament is over, especially for the third place team in their group.

I'm also not sure that Lippi would really want it. He may have at one time, but that ardour seems to have waned. He was positioning himself for a comeback with the Azzurri if they had failed to qualify, and has never been one to take big risks when it comes to his jobs.

From where I sit, Capello is the much more serious of the two Italian candidates, and Zola just gave an interview here suggesting that he could well be the best man for the job. It would be interesting to know what Beckham would make of Mr. Capello's arrival (and whether the FA gives a toss what Becks thinks anymore).

Italian duo in England frame Thursday 22 November, 2007

Italian Coaches Fabio Capello and Marcello Lippi are being linked with the vacant England hot seat.

The Football Association lost patience with Steve McClaren after he failed to deliver qualification for Euro 2008.

The search for a new boss is set to begin and ex-Juventus man Capello is one name to be mentioned after he joked about taking the job last night.

“Me as England boss? That would be a great challenge and I am the right age,” he quipped while commentating on Italy’s win over the Faroe Islands for Rai.

World Cup winning tactician Lippi is also in the frame after refusing the Birmingham City job earlier in the week.

The 59-year-old has been enjoying a Sabbatical since lifting football’s greatest prize, but he has admitted that he would return to the game if the right offer was made.

However, Lippi remains an unlikely candidate as he speaks little English and has stressed he wouldn’t work in a country where he couldn’t communicate fully.

Jose Mourinho is the strong favourite with the bookmakers at 7/2, but Aston Villa’s Martin O’Neill is seen as an option if the Special One refuses.

Here is the Zola comment......

Quote:
Zola tips Capello for England Thursday 22 November, 2007

Former Parma hero Gianfranco Zola has backed Fabio Capello for the England national job.

The search for Steve McClaren’s successor has begun and ex-Juventus boss Capello has entered the frame.

The 61-year-old joked during last night’s Italy-Faroe Islands game on Rai that he would be a good candidate and Zola seems to agree.

“I think this kind of job needs really great ability,” the Sardinian legend stated.

“It will need one of the best and think that Capello falls into that category.

“It’s really sad to see my friends in the England side out of the European Championships.

“I haven’t seen them play often this year so I don’t have a technical opinion.

"This is a very delicate time in international football when important choices are made for the future.”

Jose Mourinho remains the favourite to take the post with the bookmakers listing him at 7/2.

It's Capello for sure, I think. It's a reality that there isn't an English manager above mid-table premiership standard to mention.

The argument of Capello's lack of style (and it is a real lacking), is completely irrelevant. It's not like England have been playing total football now, is it? If anything, his love or playing 2 defensive midfielders in every game, his reduction of the role of wingers to a position only describable as "slightly advanced midfielders" and his uncanny abillity to get entire teams to loath him will be the best thing that ever happened to England.

Gerrard in CM would probably be a thing of the past, with him going RM, hating Capello for it, and therefore scoring a catalogue of "screw you" goals for the good ol' gaffer's benefit. You'd be the most annoying team in the world, now for being impossible to play against, rather than for wasting the legion of talent at your disposal.

The only stumbling block I can see on that one, is that England won't be playing a competative game for a little while.

The truth is England can't play total football with the current team (Gerrard could never play in such a team given how he never plays a simple pass and loses possession alot, which has its benifits but as last night showed there are also draw backs).

It's pointless guessing the Capello tactics as he likes to mix it up with the teams he goes to.

You don't get severance pay when you quit your job.
