Alan Smith should be recalled to the England squad:

Man Utd's Smith deserves England call - Fergie

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson says striker Alan Smith deserves an England recall.

Fergie said: "It is obviously Steve McClaren's decision but I would endorse it without question."

Smith, 26, has 16 England caps but last played for his country in October 2005.

He was then kept out for year with a broken leg and dislocated ankle.

Fergie added: "He stuck at it and he enjoyed a cracking game against Roma.

"He deserves his rewards. His enthusiasm for the game is infectious. You can see it on the training ground as well as the pitch."

I was actually thinking the same thing when we were playing against Sheff Utd, not because he played fantastically but because he put his all into the game and because recently he's been working to superb results with Rooney.

We need someone to get the best out of Rooney up front, and none of the other players have managed that, so y not give Smith a go?

No reason why he shouldnt be due a call-up. He has been settling into first team football again, and has looked good. Think he deserves it.

Well he's only played 3 - albeit very good - games so I wouldn't expect him to get called up to the firxt XI just off the back of those, but he will probably in the next squad.

He is better then Johnson, Crouch and Bent imo. Depends how England play him, only thing Smith lacks is pace which england need.
