Good thing that Barry is given a chance because he deserves it IMO

There just aren't enough of them around, especially with all the injuries and poor form.

Yup! Very well put!

Over the years the nominations have always seemed to be a kind of "inbreeding" or only picking players that fit a certain image or "know the right people"

Just look at the picks...

Why is a Phil Neville all of a sudden being regarded as a good replacement for left back, when we have Barry, Baines or even Carragher!?!

When the team plays poorly, which it has done in recent games then a manager should have the balls to just bring in fresh and young players AND play them.

When I think of Lennon, Richards, Barry, Baines, Andy J. and many others who have had good seasons in the Prem they would atleast bring some fire and passion to the game which is what English teams the past few years have been missing most. And THAT is embarrassing! They can play poorly and have bad games but when it looks like they're not even trying...just pathetic.

Errrr because he's actually had a very good season himself, and actually has played a few games at left back.

I'm assuming this is the thread for actual prematch buildup for Israel v England (if so can the thread title please be changed)

Quote:
Yossi slams England

West Ham midfielder Yossi Benayoun insists England are a team full of individuals, ahead of their forthcoming match with Israel.

The Israeli international believes England have a team full of stars but says they are not capable of playing together.

"The problem is that often they want to win games on their own and not so much as a team," said Benayoun.

England could be without some key names for the crucial Euro 2008 qualifying match in Israel, but Benayoun believes it will not make a difference.

"Their injuries won't be an excuse for them if we take them to the cleaners.

"The atmosphere in Tel Aviv will be enormous. Making England favourites is good news for us because it will take the pressure off - with or without their top players England are one of the best sides in the world.

"The real weak point is the keeper. They have changed the first choice goalkeeper and that is not good because it creates doubt among the fans."

Benayoun also offered little sympathy for the pressure on Steve McClaren insisting the England boss's future is no concern of his.

"I'm not concerned by McClaren's future. Israel need to win and that is our aim.

"Whether or not they get rid of the boss afterwards is the English FA's problem."

Why doesn't McClaren recall David James? He's playing quite well this season.

Better than Barry and Baines or is it down to the fact that he is "experienced"?

Its amazing that a bum like Downing has to get injured for a real player like Barry to make the squad.

I know. Mclaren clearly doesn't know what he is doing.
