Beckham for England
Beckham: I can play a part
Quote:
David Beckham has been buoyed by the growing clamour for him to be recalled to the England side and is confident he still has something to offer at international level.
The 31-year-old has not played for The Three Lions since Steve McClaren took charge following the World Cup.
The decision to overlook Beckham met with few complaints initially as England thrived in McClaren's first three games, but recent performances from the team have led to renewed calls for the Real Madrid midfielder to be brought back into the fold.
"It's nice to be wanted back because two months ago everyone was saying `it's better now' and `the team is playing better'," Beckham told Revista de la Liga.
McClaren has insisted the door is not closed on Beckham, and the 31-year-old is keen to stress that he is available for selection.
"The reason why I haven't retired from international football is because I still believe that I do still have a part to play in the future of England," he explained.
England's displays against Macedonia and Croatia earlier this month were widely slated, but Beckham expects the players to bounce back.
"The players have come in for criticism and players feel it. It's about showing passion and coming through that," he urged.
"We've definitely got the players who can come through that.
"Speaking to a couple of the players, they're disappointed with the way they've played and the results but the expectations are very high and that's the way it has always been in our country. It'll never change."

I think Beckham are missed. He has a big influence on the team and England is not the same without him.

God I FUCKING HATE MCLAREN ALREADY! I always knew his own ego would be too big for this job, how can he justify selecting Parker and Phil Neville ahead of Beckham? When the first midfield four aren't fit then Beckham should be starting, it's as simple as that. No-one can say he's not in the top 23 English players in the world (though this obviously does not include the magnificent Paul Scholes who's in the top 3 at the moment). He'll never be picked again but it's a travesty.

Hang on a minute. What has Beckham done recently to deserve being picked? One start all season, and he was subbed in that.

So what? How many starts would Lampard, Parker and Carrick get at Real Madrid based on current form?

where he's playing isn't the point. i would rather have someone in good form for newcastle than someone not playing.

Yeah lovely. Well I wouldn't. Parker hasn't been able to hack it for England yet has he? Beckham knows what to expect. He's not a long term fix but he should be in the squad for the next two years. It doesn't matter if he's not playing at Madrid, he's good enough to play for England.

Parker hasn't been able to hack it in what, 4 caps?
Beckham hasn't been able to hack it for England for the past four years.

Don't talk the same shit you usually come up with for once eh? The fucking 'anti-Beckham brigade', it's pathetic. I don't care if he's a big name outside of football he still has the abilities in the game to be in the squad and he had a fine world cup, did his job better than anyone else did theirs.

Name one good game Beckham has had for England in the last four years.
The only ability Beckham has is taking set pieces and there are several in the squad who are almost as good as him at that, as well as being better than him at everything else.

Just accept it. Old man Becks is only going one way, and that is down.
He's played in God knows how many tournaments and fallen way short. He should just try to become a big celeb in America with his missus and promote his new perfume.
IT'S LENNON TIME NOW!

Beckham should definitely be in the squad if not the first XI. Gerrard on the right? Lennon has performed well when asked but even if he gets picked ahead of Beckham, there should still be a place on the bench for Beckham. There is no better English crosser of the ball for a start and it's quite scandalous that Beckham was dropped to make a point when other players keep their place however badly they play. Fair enough dropping him in the first place, point taken, you're not Sven - now bring him back when nobody can name 2 better right sided midfielders.
