what country was that against?

rooney is still england's player with the most potential so surely he deserves a second chance as well

well im glad kings back in the frame, loads of strikers claim hes the hardest defender to play against (including henry and...... collins john) and he deserves to play.

when i look at that midfield tho im not really altogether that overwhelmed tbh, carrick and downing still have a lot todo to prove themselves and lampard sort of needs to redeem himself too imo, show that he didnt just have a freak 2 seasons and that he is naturally class

Steve McClaren's England have been rocked by an injury blow to central defender Rio Ferdinand.

The Manchester United stopper has suffered a suspected back problem in training and is out of the Euro 2008 clash with Macedonia on Saturday at Old Trafford.

He is also now a major doubt for Wednesday's crucial trip to Croatia and gives McClaren an unwanted headache.

Ledley King is set to be preferred to the likes of Jamie Carragher and Wes Brown and will start alongside captain John Terry against Macedonia.

Other team news for Saturday sees Michael Carrick handed the task of replacing Owen Hargreaves in central midfield as McClaren looks set to stick with his 4-4-2 formation.
