I cannot understand why Lennon is on the bench? Downing is useless for England.

England Head Coach Steve McClaren was full of praise for Liverpool striker Peter Crouch after his solitary goal helped his country to a 1-0 win in Macedonia.
It was Crouch's 11th goal in his last 10 games for England and McClaren, who missed the goal as he was late coming back to the dug out from the dressing room, described his predatory instincts as phenomenal.
"Peter has a phenomenal record and he is such a threat," beamed McClaren.
"He took a lot of stick tonight and was unlucky with some of the decisions which went against him. But he is an opportunist and he took his opportunity very well - even if I didn't see it.
"I'd just finished my half-time team talk and stayed in the dressing room to think about the second half. It's worked in the past - and it worked again! It was a very good goal."

we came away with a fluky win and the performance was piss poor...
macedonia might have been stronger opposition than we had already faced, but we made them look a lot better than they actually are, by our shitness...
downing on the left puts in some nice balls into the box, but he cant run at people and he loses possession far too much... hes not international class... plus his balls were wasted as crouch far too often was out of position and seemed unable to jump or get in front of his man, and defoe is about 3 foot tall...
lampard was wank again and was lucky that his deflected shot and charge down ended up to bambi on ice up front, who almost fucked up another chance from about 3 yards...
defoe was left isolated as we lumped long ball after long ball up front for the 3 foot dwarf, and the opportunity to replace him with bent, who is much better in the air was lost...
what made me even more mad was when we went to 4-5-1 and sat deep, leaving us open to attack after attack as we sat back and attempted to let crouch hold up the ball... that useless tosser couldnt hold up his own cock, so he was as useful up front on his own, as he was up front for us...
fair dos when johnson came on, we looked a little better, as he is a player better suited to playing the lone striker, but we shouldnt have been in that position of hanging onto a one goal lead in the first place...
in conclusion, we were wank, and we looked no different to how we used to under sven gormless....

With regards to Crouch, I do wonder about peoples' point on individual records. One of the many problems of using statistics as the primary basis for comparing internationals across eras is not only that modern players play less matches than their illustrious predecessors, but that the level of competition is likely "lumpier" than it was in the past.
This concept for Messrs. Crouch and Klose, among others and I think it is a valid one. As much as I admire Miroslav's ability to put the likes of Saudi Arabia to the sword (and should be playing for Poland), I am pretty sure that I will still think that he isn't "fit to carry Gerd Mueller's jockstrap," even if he ends up with three times as many goals as Der Bomber.

he isn't (fit to carry it) but surely he won't (score as many)
not sure of muller's record - he's still top euro club scorer isn't he?
we are svEngland - becks
and as the only way we score goals is from set pieces
and our midfielders stand around a lot
then becks may as well be in the team 4his deliveries
basically I agree with ralf

lamaprd started that hole attack on the right side which made the goal, so he deserves the assist.

I know this is going to anger quite a few people but... don't u think Gerrards balls in from the left (like after a corner) are complete wank??? He did it three times last night where it just went straight out of play!!!
Downing is only keeping J.Cole's place warm and Lennon will be used more than him in the end because Downing isn't even that good just coming on off the bench especially if his crossing is as bad as it was last night.

I agree with you regarding the second half after we scored. But the first half was ok, there were hardly any long balls and Macedonia (who have recently beaten Ecuador and Portugal by the way...) never looked like scoring and the play always seemed faster than with Sven.
HOWEVER
When the goal was scored it was back to the Sven ol days...drop deep stop playing football, hope one of the strikers get a lucky shot in...pathetic. You almost have to believe that these guys have absolutely no confidence which must be a joke.
Again I thought Hargreaves was very good! The amount af balls he gets in midfield and attacks he stops before they get dangerous is priceless!
Lamps was a bit better but he seems a bit clueless with the system at times.
I really liked A. Cole aswell I notice that he hardly ever gives away needless fouls, throw ins or corners, often he will win a tackle and start an attack with the same move.
I thought Gerrard was rubbish, bad pass after bad pass and he kept crossing to the Macedonian crowd...
Crouch...whether you like him or not at the moment he is doing exactly what a striker is supposed to, score goals. In the summer everyone including Benitez was saying Crouch needs to step up to the next level and score more goals...now he's doing that. To me he's turning more and more into a Heskey, no matter what he does people are going to critisize him for his size and quite funny moves

agree about cole and the canadian, but crouch for me, has to prove he can do it against the better sides before i will admit im in the wrong about him...
the amount of easy chances hes fluffed against the easy sides is ridiculous for international football and he wont be able to do that against top sides, eg like he did against portugal...
