Slight correction here.
The best player shouldn't neccessarily be captain. The best leader should be captain, the player with the most respect of the players and the best voice on the pitch.
The captaincy also brings burdens with it and an attacking player often doesn't play the same game with the armband on. I think Terry should get is as he is a better leader than Gerrard verbally.

terry shoudl not be rewarded for his poor showings for england, i thinkl the fact him and lampard were shite this world cup just shows the need thay have to makelele, terry has never perfomred in the two tournaments hes been in.

gerrard should be the captain, with rooney as vice, how the fuck owen has been vice captain is beyond me, he couldnt lead a sheep

Hmmmmm reading your points of view and i see where everyone is coming from.

However........

I believe in the game today you cannot have a leader that is in defense. Gerrard covers nearly every blade of grass for England. He drives forward and does more than his fair share in defence. Id persoanally pick Gerrard not only because of this reason but his will to win and do well for his country.

Which is why it had been so elusive before the World Cup and the second it came time for him to flounce on the big screen it's all hands to the pump.

22 times conceded the ball....0 tackles.

It's almost totally irrelevant who captains England now...the whole organisation is a shit cake with a cherry on top.
