Typical
Rooney looks like he has a serious injury which rules him out of the World Cup.
That's our chance of winning the thing gone.

Apparently early signs are optimistic.
It is possible he might of just badly sprained it.

On a serious note though I'd hate for England to go out and for people to say it was just down to Rooney not playing. Without trying to sound disrespectful I can't see England getting past the quarter finals, with or without Rooney. It's not like I'm claiming Italy will win it, that's just the way I see it.

Blues boss Jose Mourinho spoke to a United official and claimed: "They said it's no problem for the World Cup."
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson was more guarded about the injury.
"It's a sore one but we will just have to wait and see," he said. "There's no point in making assertions at the moment.
"When a player is taken off you are always concerned. We've had quite a few bad injuries this season but, hopefully, Wayne is not a bad one."

Early signs look good. Rooney wouldn't of travelled back on the team bus if it had been that serious surely?
Joe Cole also gave an interview in which he said the rumour was that it wasn't as bad as first thought.

Not really considering it wasn't the tackle that injured him.

Mate...this is the English press and the English public here.
If Rooney caught bird flue in London it would be all Chelseas fucking fault.

I prefer taking the Portuguese angle. He broke his metatarsal in a tackle by a Portuguese defender 3 years ago (in the euros) and now he has broken it again in another tackle by a Portuguese defender.
Injuries to England players is something that has concerned me for a while but now I'm really starting to worry. Ashley Cole has hardly played a game this season and is still injured; Michael Owen - a player who always needs about a month to get his touch back after injury - is still not happy with his foot; Ledley King is injured; Jonathan Woodgate is injured (surprisingly); Alan Smith is out of the competition; now Rooney is out with a broken metatarsal (what is it with England players and metatarsals? Beckham and Gary Neville both broken theirs in the lead up to WC02, Rooney broke his at Euro 04, and this season Owen, Cole and Rooney have all broken theirs).
Add to our injury problems Sol Campbell going mental and his form jumping ship and this season hasn't been good preparation for the World Cup at all.
