SAS?! Are you referring to Sutton and Shearer?! Because that's what they used to call them, not Shearer and Sheringham.

Luiz Felipe Scolari has firmly placed his name in the place to replace Sven-Goran Errikson after the 2006 WC... Quoted "Yes I would like the job. England have a fantastic team. But it is not for me at this moment. I am very happy in my job with Portugal, but when I finish my contract in July I will be free..." Daily Telegraph, Football Fever ...

If anyone shoudl replace Sven, I believe it is him (Scolari)...or Guus...

Reports are suggesting the FA have narrowed it down to Martin O'Neill, Stuart Pearce and Alan Curbishley. The FA say it is bollocks but the news is in all the newspapers. No smoke without fire?

I'm hoping this is rubbish but also looking on the bright side, least Sam Allardyce isn't on that list.

It is bollocks...Curbishley is at best decent and Pearce has already said he won't take the job.

'It's time for a British manager' - FA's Richards

LONDON, Feb 10 (Reuters) - Football Association vice-chairman Dave Richards, a member of the panel which will find Sven-Goran Eriksson's successor as England manager, says he would prefer a homegrown appointment.

'I do believe it's time for a British manager,' Richards told newspapers on Friday. 'Somebody who understands our passion, belief and commitment to the game.

'For me, there's no distinction between English and British.'

Premier League chairman Richards, FA chief executive Brian Barwick and international committee chairman Noel White will report on the issue of Eriksson's successor to FA chairman Geoff Thompson before the FA board holds a meeting on Feb. 27.

The FA announced last month that Swede Eriksson would step down after the World Cup in Germany which starts in June.

Media reports say former Celtic manager Martin O'Neill, Sam Allardyce of Bolton Wanderers and Charlton Athletic's Alan Curbishley are among the front-runners for the job.

Richards said he regarded his involvement in the selection process as an honour.

'I think I am a very, very lucky man to be chairman of the league, to be involved in the international scene and I think it's a fantastic thing,' he said.

'But I also take it very, very seriously. I think we have a duty of care to this game.'

Richards said there was no guarantee the three-man group would identify the correct manager for the England job.

'We'll never be sure of making the right decision,' he said. 'You press guys spend a lifetime picking us up and then you'll spend three or four years bloody killing us.

'We are the biggest nation in the world that play this game. The Premier League is the biggest brand in the world of football and we consider this time that we want someone who really can move us on.'

The Independent today are reporting that Gerry Francis is in contention for the job.

'Gerry Francis, the former Tottenham Hotspur and Queen's Park Rangers manager, has emerged as a dark-horse contender to succeed Sven Goran Eriksson as England coach',
And it isn't even 1st April.

Another rumour is that Hiddink is set to become the next Russia boss. The Telegraph says that :
Quote:
'he is poised to become the Russia coach and an announcement could be made within the next 10 days.'
One thing to note is that they also mention:
Quote:
'It is understood that billionaire Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich played a small role in securing the deal.'

Pearce not convinced over England credentials

Stuart Pearce remains convinced he will not be the next England manager.

Almost since the moment Sven-Goran Eriksson confirmed he would quit after this summer's World Cup, speculation has been rife about who was going to succeed the Swede.

Pearce's immediate response was to claim it was 'embarrassing' to have his name put forward at such an early stage of his managerial career.

However, the rumours have persisted and the admission of Football Association board member Dave Richards that a 'British' coach is the preferred option has narrowed the choices and with Martin O'Neill being strongly tipped to take over at Newcastle, Pearce, Alan Curbishley and Bolton boss Sam Allardyce are the favourites.

All three were at Eastlands yesterday, where Pearce's Manchester City side record a 3-2 win over Curbishley's Charlton and Allardyce used his platform as Sky Sports pundit to call for an Englishman to become the next England boss.

But Pearce is adamant the powerbrokers at Soho Square will not be calling on him, even though he has also revealed he would attend an interview if FA chief executive Brian Barwick asked him to.

'As far as I am concerned, it is total pie in the sky,' he said.

'It is nice to have your name associated on a daily basis with such a prestigious job after only 40 games in club management.

'But I don't think when the job is being given out I will be in the hot seat that's for sure.'

Allardyce is convinced he has the right credentials to succeed in the role and, given the amount of coaching badges required to manage in the Premiership, feels it is only just that an Englishman should be asked to do the job.

'If the FA are talking about the next England manager being British it is good news for everyone in this country,' he said.

'The public seem to want that, so obviously I would want to go that way - not just from the point of being in contention but because I am English.

'It is very important for this country - and for the FA - to go down that route because we are all taught through their system and we are all going through the curriculum for the badges and qualifications.'

Curbishley insists the constant speculation is not a distraction, but he does think it would be immensely helpful for the FA to give some 'clarity' to the issue by confirming no appointment would be made until the Barclays Premiership campaign reaches its conclusion on May 7.

'The situation should be clarified,' said Curbishley. 'In my opinion, the FA should turn round and say they will not make an announcement until after the final Premiership game on May 7, which will just allow everyone to get on with what they have to do.

'All we are getting at the moment is 'Curb Watch', 'Pearce Watch' and 'Sam Watch', plus a fictional horse race with our heads on little horses seeing who is in front.

'It is not distracting but all three of us have important jobs to do. There is still three months of the season left and every day someone is saying something else.

'Who knows what people are thinking. I just think we should all be given a chance and the FA say they are not going to talk about it until after the season is over.'

England job would be Fab
Reports in Italy claim Juventus coach Fabio Capello has been offered the England job, while Inter Milan are chasing Rafa Benitez.

The Corriere dello Sport has revealed that Capello has been offered a contract believed to be worth around £4.5 million-a-year from the Football Association to take over from Sven Goran Eriksson after the World Cup

The Juve boss, who is leading his side to the Serie A title this season, is contracted at the Stadio Olympico until 2007 but his future at the club has been put in doubt recently.

Antonio Giraudo hinted this week that the Bianconeri are on the lookout for Capello's successor with Roma trainer Luciano Spalletti the prime target.

Meanwhile, Inter Milan are ready to lure Rafa Benitez away from Liverpool with a £50 million transfer budget.

The Nerazzurri are currently second in Serie A but trail leaders Juventus by 12 points following last weekend's 2-1 defeat to Fabio Capello's men.

And this is not good enough for Inter patron Massimo Moratti who is now ready to show coach Roberto Mancini the door unless he can win the Champions League.

They face Ajax next week in the first knockout stages and defeat would signal the end of his two-year reign at the San Siro.

The Corriere dello Sport reported that Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez is highly regarded in Italy and is one of the front runners for the post along with PSV Eindhoven coach Guus Hiddink and Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.

And an Inter source told the Daily Mirror: "Benitez has already proved he is a top manager in Spain and England and Inter believe he can now do the same in Italy.

"Winning the European Cup against Milan will make him immediately popular with Inter fans. And his achievements with Valencia, where he twice won the title over Real Madrid and Barcelona, proves he has real pedigree."
