Eriksson battling for England players' trust
Quote:
Ex-England stars Jamie Redknapp and Chris Waddle believe Sven Goran Eriksson will have lost the support of his squad after Sunday's amazing sting by the News of the World.
Redknapp said: "Sven is in a difficult position and it's an incredible situation for him to have got involved with.
"The huge thing is he will have lost the trust of his players by talking about players like Michael Owen and Rio Ferdinand with people he hardly knows.
"For me, as a proud Englishman, this is not what I want to see him doing at the moment."
Waddle also told The Sun: "If the players did talk to Sven about their club situation in the past - then I'm sure they won't do it again.
"He's breached their confidence and I doubt whether they will trust him again.
"How many chances does the bloke need? He's broken every rule in the book."

Bunch of ****ing idiots, the guy was set up, is he not allowed to have opinions? It doesn't matter what you think of his management technique the fact is England would be in big trouble at the world cup if he went now. ****ing Jamie Redknapp we all know where this is coming from - you weren't good enough to get in the squad under Eriksson, pretty boy, too bad - now **** off back to your ugly wife and your glamour mag. And who cares what Waddle thinks honestly, the media in this country trots these people out just so they can expres their own opinions with a famous name behind them. This makes me so so angry.

I can't see what the big deal is. Did anyone expect him to stay on after this WC? Is it controvirsial to see Rio cam be lazy, SWP was overpriced, Rooney came from a rough area and Beckham is homesick? The only players that can feel annoyed at Sven are Owen (who Sven claims only went to Newcastle for the money) and Giggs (who Sven says would of played for England if he was eligible).

Players will forgive Sven, claims PFA chief Taylor
Players' union chief Gordon Taylor believes the England team will still give their backing to manager Sven-Goran Eriksson despite his indiscreet remarks about some of them to an undercover reporter.

Gordon Taylor: PFA chief
The Swede made unhelpful comments about David Beckham, Michael Owen, Rio Ferdinand, Wayne Rooney and Shaun Wright-Phillips to the News of the World reporter, who was posing as an Arab sheikh with a view to invest in the English game.
Taylor, the chief executive of the Professional Footballers Association, insists an apology will have been all it would take for the players to move on and forget about the incident.
'The players he mentioned will have felt uncomfortable, and the stuff about Rio, Michael, Wayne and Shaun was a little bit 'ouch',' he told the Daily Telegraph.
'But they know what happened to Sven could have happened to them.
'Most of the players in Sven's squad have been set up by the press at some point. So there will be a sense of sympathy and understanding - with the right apology.
'Footballers get a lot more than that thrown at them. The players will say `OK, fair enough, you've apologised, I am glad you have made the effort'.'
