Default A look ahead to the NI game...

We all thought that England would trash Wales which we didn't (as we should have expected if we're honest with ourselves)

So, taking our recent form into consideration, how do we think we'll fair against a NI team that is high on winning their first home game in 4 years???

I don't expect NI to throw the kitchen sink at us, but I don't expect them to be a walk over by any means.

Will it be another bitty game where we'll do well to walk away with a 1-0 win, or will we finally hit our massive potential and trash them CONVINCINGLY...???

Based on our last two games I reckon we'll just scrape past them, but I wouldn't be totally shocked if we were held to a draw...

We should be confident enough to really go at them with something like a 3-1-3-1-2...

Carra...... Rio.....A.Cole

.....Carrick or Parker......

SWP.......Becks.....Gerrard or Lamps

............Rooney..........

.......Owen.......Defoe

Ashley Cole is not a centre back, SWP is not a central midfielder

whilst i admire the bravery of your system....i must laugh at its flaws

a 3232is workable tho;

...............robbo
.......terry...ferdi....carra
..........becks...parker
swp..........lamps........down
.........rooney...owen

but ON PAPER the best is the wing back formation;

...................robbo
.........terry....ferdi....carra
steve.............park............cole
...........becks........lamps
...................roon
..................owen

but that would all be down to whether the back three could fuse in time (unlikely imo)

u cant seriously put downing in an england team atm. (aside from his injury) that lad is a flash in the pan.

and surely neville (or atm young) would be better at RWB, pushing beckham in the DM and gerrard alongside lampard........

no....the best natural wingbacks england have are glenn johnson and keiron dyer....

yes i know...

steven gerrard would be excellent there....could do all the vein glorious running around he likes without ****ing up the central midfield.

seriously nj...when was his last good game for england in the middle.....before frank turned up, thats when.

imo its better to have both frank and stevie in the same side rather than drop one...both too dangerous to leave out.

kieron dyer was excellent at wing back when he first come on the scene, but these days he's far too much of a puff to even play football, let alone defend.

glen johnson is struggling to establish himself as a decent premiership player, international is way off imo.

gerrard is world class, far more consistent for england than beckham has been for at least 4 years (since greece). he wouldnt be able to use his passing and shooting abilities to the full if he was operating from wing back, especially of the opposing side had a decent left mid.

gerrard has done nothing since the introduction of frank lampard to england.....lampard has been (up until the last two games where his club form has dropped too) englands most consistent player by far.

keiron dyer still has the potential in him....but i doubt he will ever realise it unless he moved to jose's school of mourinho mind games.

why are people putting beckham in the middle, he would get ripped apart by a half decent team, the team that plays on wednesday will be th eteam that starts the world cup, bar injuries

Do you mean to suggest they they couldn't play in this system if it were the best we had..??? Of course they could play in these positions...

On the subject of Gerrard, I think his last brilliant game for us was the 5-1 over Germany, not one other game really stands out in my mind for him since then...

As most of you have said, the problem is that Sven seems adament that he must play Beckham, Garrard and Lampard in the same side. Imagine if one of them was dropped, well it would alow us to explore different tactics and formations using players that are more suitable to certain positions (Carrick/Parker in holding role etc) and the added bonus is that we could have a brilliant substitution to make at that key time when a change is need to turn the game...

The proof of the pudding is that Gerrard and Lampard are just too alike and the side cannot function to the BEST of it's ability with both of them playing... We need a true holding midfielder and neither of them or Beckham is it... Shame Nicky Butt isn't 5 years younger.........

Yes, how on earth is SWP a central midfielder? He could never play there, there are far far better options in the squad, you cant just pick the 11 best players to play in any formation.

Yeap, Sven's formations are always utterly predictable. Shame though cos J.Cole and Lampard should both be dropped cos they are playing shíte, SWP deserves another run out.

IMO we should have another go with 4-5-1 but like this:

..........Robinson
P.Nev...Rio...Carra...A.Cole
............Carrick
........Becks.....Gerrard
..SWP...................Rooney
..............Owen

I agree Lampard looks knackered but I would like to see Beckham out on the left in a more conventional midfield. Rooney looked much less effective once he was put on the wing in the second half against Wales.
