England wales
Is it me or is this not being built up as much as it should?
I remember last time we played sctoladn in the euro 2000 play off, everyone was talking about it, it was a huge event.
But now everyone just seems fairly ambivilant to it all.

I think people are concentrating more on the league being that it has only just started, especially with all the transfer activity etc... People are already showing a bit more intereset in the game this morning although there is little in the papers this morning other than the NC/Owen story (STILL!)
I expect England to win convincingly on Saturday, 3-0 at least, whereas if we were facing France this weekend there would be a hell of a lot more hype... I think the nation just expects, and lets be honest, Wales, although not a team to be underestimated, are not a great world force to be reckoned with...

Thats because it's not a massive game like the Scotland games, which were huge as they were play-offs, and we were quite evenly matched at the time and in all honesty we were lucky to sneak through, whereas we are clearly a superior team to the sheep shaggers and should beat them comfortably

England are expected to line up with Wayne Rooney as a lone striker for Saturday's World Cup qualifier against Wales in Cardiff.
Manager Sven-Goran Eriksson discussed the proposed new tactic at a meeting with senior players on Tuesday night.
The system would mean no place in the side for Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe, who had been expected to partner Rooney in attack with Michael Owen suspended.
A five-man midfield would utilise David Beckham as the pivot, keeping play ticking over from a deep position with Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard in more attacking roles.
Chelsea wingers Joe Cole and Shaun Wright-Phillips are expected to be the choices to operate on the flanks in a formation similar to that regularly deployed by Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge.

Not sure if Rooney is the ideal player to play in Drogba/Crespo's role going with the Chelsea connection in the article. But should be interesting to see.

maybe not the very best but i think he will enjoy it and i think england will benefit.
swp, rooney and cole are the best 3 young attackers england have and are 3 of the best young players in europe.

Wales @ 7/1 is amazing... if Cardiff they just might do it, although they may feel the backlash of England's embarrasing defeat last month.

Man for man we pretty much beat them in every area of the pitch bar Giggs Vs Young which frighteningly looks likely now and will be our weakest spot...

giggs v young? lol...giggs might have a half decent game, but his best is well behind him.
his pace is negligable and as long as young shepards him inside and is supported by gerrard, becks or swp he will be comfortable.
hartson and gabbidon are their best players and carragher and rooney will b more than a match.

We played shít deserved to win but hardly created any chances. SWP and Joe Cole were both shocking as was Young. Lampard has had many better games for England. Carragher wasn't much good.
Rooney only had one chance in the whole game (down to a wales mistake) cos England (SWP and J.Cole) created nothing for him.
Beckham and Rio played well though.

swp was decent but he barely had the ball.
gerrard, lampard and cole were cack.....50 % down to them the other down to the welsh who played out of their skin.....gabbidon was class.
rooney was decent and beckhams role is clearly in that holding role....against a side that will actually leave spaces we will create more.
carragher looked nervous and ferdinand was his average self.
young isnt of international class (not an opinion based on this performance alone).
dont know what the **** eriksson did in the second half....

I know, I was trying to work out the formation changes brought about by the subs:
When SWP went off I thought either we would go 4-4-2 or Defoe would become the front man with Rooney going on the right. (I think) the latter happened.
When Hargreaves (for J.Cole) came on I thought rooney would either switch to the left with becks or harg=dgreaves moving to the right. I still have no idea what did happen to to the formation.
When Richardson can on I was lost and was wondering if Rooney was on the move again and started to consider the real possibility that Sven was trying his best to loose the game by fcuking up the formation/balance/team.

yeah the subs were wank and stupid.
i can understand your frustration with cole mate...but not swp....when he actually got the ball (which was once in a blue moon) he looked dangerous and created a couple of chances.
he had one good offside decision against him and one totally wank one too.
tbh i want poor performances from chelsea players for england...it means they will try even harder for chelsea.
