Strikeforce
Owen and Rooney are dead-certs so that leaves 2 or possibly 3 places to fill.
That leaves...
Defoe
Johnson
Crouch
Smith
Ashton
Bent
Sheringham
I'd take 5 strikers so I could have Teddy in there - he offers something nobody else does and if Rooney got injured like in Portugal he'd be vital.
Rooney Owen Defoe Crouch Sheringham

Teddy does offer something different but for me he too old for international football. IMO it will be Defoe, Smith and Vassell that go to WC06 along with Rooney and Owen obviously.

Rooney is great.
But the rest I wouldn't call 'strikeforce'. Owen, Defoe, Crouch and Sheringham are like ****ing against a brick wall to knock it over.

Sheringham will probably retire at the end of the season anyway, and it will only be four strikers, three of which will be Owen, Rooney and Defoe and whoever plays best during the season will probably go with them

Are you serious? Owen cant score goals when he has a great record internationally at nearly one every two games?
Defoe? Who can score consistently from almost anywhere on the park?

I don't think age can be considered when we talk about Sherringham, the only thing he's lost with growing older is his pace, ha! he never had any anyway, that's not his game at all...
He's got one of the best footballing brains in the game and I really do believe he could do a vital job for us next year. He is able to pull defences apart, draw players out of possition and of course un-lock defences like only a few other players in the world can. OK, he might retire at the end of the season, well what a way to go out!
After Defoe, Rooney...oh and Owen were pencilled in he'd be next on the list ahead of any of the rest... He should go along with the other three and Smith who's able to agrivate defences (and most people) and give us a bit more bite up front... Job done...

owen/rooney
defoe
smith
teddy or crouch
lets not forget teddy doesnt have any less pace now than when he retired from international footbal....i.e. **** all.

Am I the only person who doesn't want to see the Soft-Pepperami (i.e. Crouch) anywhere near the England squad... OK, Sven says he give some thing to the team that nobody else does, yhea well if we need a lanky-Rodney look-a-like mascot we'll give him a call... I don't rate him at all and think he should have stayed at SH...

well bent and johnson add nothing that owen and defoe dont already provide.
ashton could have made it but he would have to have an utterly amazing record goalscoring season at norwich and a few friendlies under his belt so that leaves two players
crouch or teddy.
if teddy wants a go i pick him.....if he doesnt then crouch is worth a pick.
of course we dont know how this season will pan out so lets wait and see.

IMO the only striker (and the only player in the whole squad) we can't afford to get injured and miss the WC is Rooney. The strengh of our midfield and defence means we can cope with injuries, Defoe or vassell would be able to cover for Owen resonably well but no one can replace Rooney (the only other player I'd be really worried about getting injured is Robinson cos that would mean James would be 1st choice *shudders*).

Owen taps the ball in at point blank range. Apart from the obvious statistics, he is useless anywhere else outside of the box. A wasted player, considering he started off with so much potential.
I'm bored with all the excuses 'oh, hes out of form, but when he gets back (if ever) he'll be great'

So what? As long as that ball is in the back of the net I really couldn't give a flying fcuk how it got there. Owen is a predator - look at his international record and tell me that it matters he doesn't do much outside the box.

So does this mean Van Nistelrooy is a bad striker because he doesn't score from anywhere outside the box?
He still is a quality striker, I think most people are basing their opinions on his last year with Liverpool when he was injured alot and didnt play much
32 goals in 71 games and he's still a bad striker?

Also, no-one else has been a reliable goal scorer for england other than owen since shearer retired, so he has to play as he scores where others don't. Defoe can score, but doesn't have the record to show it yet.
