Better than Keane as a player or Rio as a captain??
Stevie's only equal as a central midfielder in the world is Vieira.
Rio isn't a great captain. Decent at organising his defense, but never talks to those infront of him.

Imo it has too be sol campbell, never has a bad game for england, his overall presence is influential enough and he carries the experience. For him, playing is a huge boost for the team, but as captain i'd feel a lot more confident.

Just a Yank but from watching the last 2 World Cups and his presence I would take Sol Campbell, even though I think Ferdinand has more superstar quality , but Sol is a rock.

Just spotted this after posting in England Midfield thread.
Rio Ferdinand for captain. Soon for club and country.

LOL, I just replied in the other one too, carry the captaincy one in here. If yoyu have anythign else to say about the midfield, besides your quartet add it in there.
You think he'll take over from Keano? I do to be honest, but I can't see that until at least '06. Season.

Heh..the 05/06 season realistically!
..but yes, no-one rivals him in terms of a commanding figure in the Utd squad; the role fits him, even when he's wore the band in Keano's absence, he's looked the part.
For England, I think he could pull it off also..saying that I think anyone other than Beckham would absolutely work their socks off for their country.

Can't argue with that role. Yeh, thats the season I meant. Next one, which would be '06...[when the trophies are dished out]
But that means we ahve the buy either now, or in June anyway, and I've said it in the thread 'Defensive Midfielders' we need the perfect replacement for keane, I don't know who that is, any idea's?

Frank Lampards not been in the team long enough to be captain..
I think Fergies made it quit clear tht Rio is the next United captain by making him vice captain instead of Giggs!
Gerrard should be captain tho! He's got all the credentials: Influence, passion and an unbelievable work rate, he wouldn't let his country down! (eh Beckham)

You can't have some1 who's filling in for some1 else as captain!
And King and Woodgate(when fit) will be ahead of Terry.

I think Keane has proven it time and time again that he can pull united through. He has great leadership skills and in my eyes there is no match between Gerrard and Keane for who is the better captain.
Rio for next England captian!
