Default France And England To Meet In Friendly

Steve McClaren’s England will travel to Paris to face France in a friendly on 26 March 2008.

The prestigious clash has been lined up as a pre-Euro 2008 warm-up ahead of next summer’s finals in Austria and Switzerland.

Both countries are yet to qualify for the tournament, with France currently sitting in third place in Group B, and England still having to negotiate a tricky trip to Russia next Wednesday in order to fend off their Group E challengers.

The last time England and France met was during the finals of Euro 2004. England led for most of the game, but two late goals from Zinedine Zidane earned Les Bleus a 2-1 victory in Portugal.

The arch-rivals last played a friendly together in September 2000 in a match arranged to celebrate France’s European Championships triumph a few months earlier.

Michael Owen scored an 86th minute equaliser for England to earn a 1-1 draw, after Emmanuel Petit had put France ahead. England have a far superior head-to-head record over the French. In 26 games England have won 16, drawn four and lost only six.

I predict a boring 0-0 draw.
