"I went out, fought every game, did what I needed to do to try to make that team win. But I don't think every player's heart and soul was in it."
-- World Cup veteran Chad Deering, 33, who was released by the Dallas Burn Monday after six seasons. Dallas was 6-19-5 last season. (Dallas Morning News)

Would be nice to see him picked up as a role player somewhere. Or maybe the A-League.

"We're going to make sure everyone's mind is clear, that he wants to be here and that he knows what he's getting into."

Burn Name Two Assitants 03/02/04
The Dallas Burn announced today that Steve Morrow and Brian Haynes have been named Assistant Coaches for the squad.
"We're thrilled to be able to add two quality soccer men to our coaching staff in Steve and Brian," said Burn President and General Manager Greg Elliott. "They bring a wealth of experience to the team from both a playing and coaching standpoint. Additionally, we've had a great deal of change within the organization over the last few months and this move enables us to establish some continuity. Both Steve and Brian are very familiar with the team as well as the league and will be vital additions to the coaching staff."
Morrow, 33, spent the last two years as a defender for the Burn before retiring near the end of the 2003 season due to a neck injury. Morrow brings a wealth of experience to the coaching staff from his storied playing career. Prior to joining the Burn in 2002, Morrow, who has 39 caps with the Northern Ireland National Team, spent the previous four years with Queens Park Rangers in the first division in England. His stint with QPR followed a ten-year career with Arsenal of the Premiership, beginning his professional career with the Gunners at the age of 17. While with Arsenal, he was a mainstay in a lineup that won the FA Cup and the League Cup in 1993, the European Cup Winners Cup in 1995 and advanced to the finals of the Cup Winners Cup in 1996. Morrow scored the game-winning goal in the 1993 League Cup Final.
Haynes, 41, is beginning his third year on the coaching staff after spending four-plus years as a midfielder with the Burn, scoring eight goals while adding six assists. Prior to joining the Burn, Haynes, who holds a Class "A" coaching license, played indoor for the Kansas City Attack and outdoor with the Orlando Lions, the Maryland Bays, the Colorado Foxes and won a championship with the Seattle Sounders in 1995.

Gibbs Explains Dallas Move 04/02/04
The transfer of U.S. international Cory Gibbs from St. Pauli to MLS has been completed and the player is expected in Dallas Wednesday for his presentation with the Burn.
The Battle Spyder hinted to Hamburger Morgenpost that he chose a homecoming over chances to play in Germany because the Burn made him feel most wanted.
"Frankfurt would have been interesting as a Bundesliga club, but the club gave me the feeling like it was a favor to sign me,” reasoned Gibbs. “Additionally, I wouldn't have earned much money.”
”This would have been different in (Bundesliga II side) Regensburg, but they treated me like a test player."
The Florida native also likes how he will be easier for Bruce Arena to call on in the coming months.
"Before the WC qualifying starts, we face the Netherlands, Mexico and Tunisia,” he reminded. “I can take part in all of these games."
Still, Gibbs expressed his regret over the financial situation at St. Pauli that forced his sale.
Three years ago, the Pirates were in the lucrative Bundesliga, but two relegations have helped to send what is essentially a community club into a fiscal spiral.
The versatile Gibbs was one of the few players kept around from last season and he makes no effort to hide that he loved his time in Hamburg.
"(When I arrived), I had never heard anything about St Pauli,” recounted the 24-year old. “And when I saw the old stadium and the locker rooms, I thought 'My god, what is this?', but I became comfortable here quickly.”
”The atmosphere at the Millerntor can't be topped, even Dortmund with a four times higher attendance,” boasted Gibbs. “Our intro music; ‘Hells' Bells’… our goal music ‘Song 2’ - I will miss that a lot."

In addition to the groundbreaking, an unveiling of the official facility design to the general public took place for the first time. Should be a nice stadium. I can't wait to see it finished. Another step in the right direction.
