Chivas are playing their reserves in the first league match of the season this weekend so that the first team can play Barca in a friendly.

don't make sense it would never happen in Europe, by the way I believe they lost 1-0 to Toluca

Internacional appear to have been worthy winners opver the two legs; some abject defending from both sides, with a particularly bad spill by the Sao Paolo keeper for the first Internacional goal.

Palmeiras definitely finished in one of the relegation places in the last ten years, but were saved by one of those Texeira special post facto rule changes taking into account results over the last five years and the number of ginger players in the squad or some such.

That said, I seem to recall that they went down again for "real" a bit later, perhaps around the time that they ceased to be propped up by Parmalat.

I have soft spots for both Flamengo and (especially) Corinthians, but it would do wonders for the largely non-existant credibility of Brazilian club football for one or both of them to go down.

BTW, Borussia Dortmund have just signed Tinga.

The Cruzeiro wall was so intent on encroaching that they left Ceni the perfect gap. He certainly does seem to be using his experience as a keeper when it comes to taking his kicks; the penalty was essentially unstoppable.

Also nice to see the Cruzeiro players completely ignoring their rubbish mascot (is it supposed to be a wolf?).

And Corinthians only a point from safety. Let's hope Globo's "Light at the end of the Tunnel" headline is not a harbinger of an oncoming train.
