Herzog announces retirement plans
9 September 2004
Austria legend Andreas Herzog has announced he will retire at the end of the Major League season in November.
"I am 36, I have had enough," the LA Galaxy player said. "Los Angeles is the perfect ending to my career."
The midfielder is the only Austrian with more than 100 caps to his name, making 103 appearances for his country, including the 1990 and 1998 World Cups, and scoring 26 goals.
During his career he played for Admira/Wacker, Rapid Vienna, Werder Bremen and Bayern Munich before returning to both Bremen and Rapid and finishing his career with the Galaxy.
His finest moments came in winning the German championship with Bremen, where he also won the German cup, and the UEFA Cup with Bayern.
