ups and downs#2 (for the comming week)
Division One
UP
Norwich and West Brom are within touching distance of the Premiership.
Norwich's return to the top flight after a nine-year absence will be confirmed on Wednesday if Sunderland fail to beat Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. If the Black Cats win that game the Canaries will confirm their promotion themselves if they win at the weekend or Sunderland lose or draw.
Defeat for Sunderland on Wednesday - or Saturday - would leave West Brom needing one more point to seal promotion.
DOWN
Wimbledon are relegated after losing 2-1 to Sunderland on 6 April.
Wimbledon's 3-2 win at Bradford City on 17 April dragged the Bantams down with them.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Division Two
UP
If Plymouth win on Saturday in the crunch game against QPR, and Bristol City lose or draw against Brighton, the Pilgrims would be promoted. If Bristol City win against Brighton, who will be looking to seal their own play-off place if Port Vale slip up, Plymouth must wait.
DOWN
Wycombe's relegation was confirmed after Easter Monday's results (12 April).
Notts County will join them if they lose on Saturday. County could even go down if they draw or win at the weekend, depending on results elsewhere. Victory would probably delay their relegation though - and possibly end Port Vale's play-off hopes.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Division Three
UP
Doncaster were the first English team to be promoted after a 2-0 home win over Cambridge (12 April), and could claim the Third Division title this weekend if they beat York and second-placed Hull City lose in the big game against third-placed Huddersfield Town. A win there would be enough to guarantee promotion for Hull.
But if the Terriers win, they and Hull will both be promoted if fourth-placed Torquay lose at Cheltenham, and both Lincoln and Mansfield fail to win.
Whatever happens in Hull against Huddersfield, Torquay must win to retain any hope of claiming third place - and three points would also guarantee a play-off place for the Gulls.
DOWN
Defeat for Carlisle at the weekend, along with wins for Rochdale and Scunthorpe, would see the Brunton Park club relegated.
York are favourites to join them after losing to Yeovil on Tuesday. Defeat for the Minstermen on Saturday, together with wins for Rochdale and Scunthorpe, would see York realistically down, and having to improve their goal difference by around 15 goals in their last two games to have any hope of staying up.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Conference
UP
Chester City have secured a return to the Football League by winning the Conference. The Deva Stadium outfit beat Scarborough 1-0 on 17 April with Darryn Stamp getting the winner.
Hereford will finish as runners-up, and will be joined in the play-offs by Shrewsbury, who booked their place by beating Stevenage 3-1 (17 April).
Aldershot and Barnet are in pole position to claim the other two play-off places, although Exeter and Morecambe could also sneak in.
RELEGATION FROM CONFERENCE/PROMOTION TO CONFERENCE
Northwich are relegated after a dismal season in the Conference (3 April), while Leigh RMI will join them after a 5-0 defeat by Hereford (17 April) ensured that they will finish 21st. Farnborough were condemned to the bottom three after losing 2-0 at Gravesend (12 April), but they could yet be spared from the drop because Hucknall, champions of the Unibond League, do not have a good enough ground for the Conference.
Barrow do have a good enough ground, but needed to finish second in the Unibond in order to claim their place.
Defeat against Alfreton on Tuesday means Barrow now cannot finish higher than third - which means Farnborough could be reprieved.
Crawley Town winners of the Dr Martens Premier Division and Canvey Island, winners of the Ryman League, are promoted to the Conference.
