Mowbray goes nuts about KP
Tony Mowbray hailed evergreen striker Kevin Phillips after the 34-year-old helped 10-man West Brom seal an impressive 3-1 victory at Hull.
Phillips opened the scoring with his 16th goal of the season and set up James Morrison for the second to give the visitors a commanding half-time lead against the run of play.
Hull hit back with a superb strike from Richard Garcia, and the hosts were given a further boost when Albion were reduced to 10 men with 17 minutes remaining after the dismissal of Paul Robinson.
However, substitute Roman Bednar scored a breakaway goal to seal the points in stoppage time and take West Brom two points clear at the top of the Championship table.
"For a man of his age he (Phillips) has a fantastic physique, and he's a great credit to his profession," said Mowbray. "He's a great finisher but he also showed great awareness of space for Morrison's goal.
"He's adapting his game all the time. If you get into the Premier League, you need as many good players as possible, and he certainly falls into that category.
"Sometimes that cutting edge gets you the points, and that was the case.
"It's not just about Kevin Phillips though. The team worked extremely hard and looked potent going forward."
Mowbray, however, was far from happy with the dismissal of Robinson, who was sent off for a second bookable offence after a challenge on substitute Fraizer Campbell.
"In my opinion it wasn't high and it wasn't late," he added. "We did a lot of work on 11 versus 10 during the week because that seems to be the culture these days.
"It was always going to be hard after that, and with their passionate support behind them, but it was pleasing to see the resilience of the side."
