Leicester City chairman Milan Mandaric has confirmed Robbie Fowler as the club's top target.

Fowler has held talks with Sydney FC about a possible move to Australia, and Cardiff City are also reportedly interested in the Liverpool legend, but Mandaric admits a desire to bring the 32-year-old to The Walkers Stadium.

The Foxes, who have already brought in Carl Cort and are reportedly close to a £2million agreement for Birmingham forward DJ Campbell, are hoping to continue to bolster their attack as they look to fire their way back to the Premier League.

"We are still looking for more firepower up front and Fowler could give us that," Mandaric told the Leicester Mercury.

"I have been talking with his representatives and we know there is competition for him but it is not always about money.

"I think we would be the right club for someone who is really looking for the right challenge.

"We will see what happens through the pre-season and into August, but I said this would be a major rebuilding job for the club and that is still the case."

Leicester v Blackpool Preview

Leicester go into their opener against Blackpool without new-boys Hossein Kaebi and Carl Cort, but Gareth McAuley and Joe Mattock are available.

McAuley and Mattock have overcome their problems to be in Martin Allen's squad, although Patrick Kisnorbo is suspended.

Former Birmingham striker DJ Campbell should make his first league appearance for The Foxes.

Wes Hoolahan will have to wait to make his permanent debut for Blackpool as his move from Livingston is being looked into by Fifa.

However, defender Danny Coid has recovered from injury to be fit to play.

Foxes target Riordan

Leicester City are interested in Celtic striker Derek Riordan, according to Milan Mandaric.

The 24-year-old has struggled for a regular first-team place at Celtic Park since arriving from Hibernian last summer.

However, Leicester boss Martin Allen is keen to add the Scotland international to his squad.

Mandaric told the Scottish Daily Mail: " I can confirm that Martin has an interest in Riordan, for sure.

"There are some discussions going on between us and Celtic.

"We're at an early stage but I can't give any more details."

The Scotland international said last month that he would use the month of August to contemplate his future.

"I haven't spoken to the boss.

"I will wait and see how it goes towards the end of the transfer window.

"I don't want to have the same season as I did last season obviously, so I will see what happens."

Hasselbaink in dark over Foxes

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink admits he has been left in the dark over his proposed move to Leicester City.

The Dutch striker is a free agent after being released by Charlton at the end of last season.

However, Hasselbaink claims he was invited to undergo a medical with the Foxes on Monday, after agreeing terms with Leicester chairman Milan Mandaric on Friday.

Hasselbaink, though, says that when he arrived in Leicester for his medical he was told that it was no longer going to take place.

The 35-year-old now believes there has been a disagreement between Mandaric and Leicester manager Martin Allen.

In the dark

"I agreed terms with Milan Mandaric thinking I was going to sign for Leicester," Hasselbaink told Sky Sports News.

"But I arrived in Leicester and the medical was off, obviously there is a problem between the chairman and the manager.

"I got a call from the manager himself on Sunday to come for the medical, but I arrived at the training ground on Monday and the medical never happened.

"I've not had a lot of explanation. They just told me that the deal wasn't off, but that the medical could not be done, I don't know what is going on."

Counter-claim

However, Leicester chairman Mandaric insisted the move collapsed after Foxes boss Allen said he wanted to look at Hasselbaink on trial first.

"I negotiated with Jimmy his package and his needs and it took me a couple of days to sort it out," Mandaric told Sky Sports News.

"After we agreed on the numbers there was one condition that he meet with the manager, I turned to my manager and he wanted to sign him, but he wanted to be with him for 30 days to check his form and fitness.

"I never have pushed any player to my manager, it is up to the manager to make his decision.

"I don't think we have to talk about Jimmy's capabilities as a footballer, but it is the manager's choice and manager's decision and that is the end of it."

Hasselbaink meanwhile, who is currently training with the Chelsea reserves, says that, with his move to the Walkers Stadium seemingly stalling, he would be prepared to listen to other offers.

"Obviously I would love to play in the Premier League," Hasslebaink added.

"But, I would be prepared to play for a Championship club who have the ability, or want, to go up."
